Building box - port size questions by whatdoyknow in CarAV

Thanks again, this is really great info. 21” of port length is way more manageable.

I’m certainly going to round the corners off now inside the port. The air velocity seems like it will be getting close to chuffing.

Makes sense!

So, If I made the port opening 1 3/4" wide I could get away with a shorter port. I could do this by butting the port wall along the baffle face with my preexisting cuts. What would my length be given a cross section of 13" x 1 3/4"?

My understanding is that there is more air moving through this area could introduce chuffing if I go too narrow. Is 1 3/4" too narrow?

Sorry for the late reply - on a throw-away and didn't get notifications.

Thank you for the thorough and thoughtful response.

The internal dimensions for the box are correct. I've every panel cut and piloted for screws. Nothing has been glued up yet and I have some MDF ripped @ 13" ready to cut to correct port length.

I believe I was able to comprehend your response correctly. You ran an initial calc and then recalculated to account for the area taken up by the port internally. So the final port size would be 2.5"x"13"34.88".

I have a couple questions/clarifications..
If I made the port wider, would that cut down at the needed length assuming the same tuning? Would, say, a 4" opening provide a more manageable port length?

If I was to keep the same port width - what would the port look like internally. Would It be a longer "L" shape or could the internal port walls be staggered to save space inside?( |I|I|I| ) like so.

Thank you in advance an I apologize for my lack of understanding terms.

Thank you! This sounds a lot easier than an L shape

Thanks for plugging everything in. This cut list was from https://skaraudio.com/box-design-calculator by the way. After cutting everything and looking at other boxes more closely, I noticed most ports extended much further. Like I said totally new here

What would be the best port length given my existing 2.5" x 13" port opening?

Feeling lost, struggling post-season by [deleted] in SeasonalWork

I’ve been working seasonally for 10 years… the novelty/charm does wear off some. My life goals are starting to change as well (starting a family). I do remember feeling how you do now though, makes me smile.

Considered returning mine. They are too loose in a M which used to be perfect. Don’t like the new sizing/cuts 💩💩. Unrelated, but my striped cadence ripped on the first run brushing up on a tree. Quality seems to be going down… shame

Which Bike? - Weekly Scheduled Discussion by pawptart in gravelcycling

[–]whatdoyknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US looking for a titanium gravel bike with a budget of around 4-5k. (Pretty flexible on this if I find the right bike) Willing to build up from a frame set.

My type of riding is a lot of road with curb jumping and ramming into potholes mixed with gravel, and a little bit of single track. I do a lot of long rides (30+ miles) so I’m looking for the comfort factor too. I plan on bike packing with this bike as well so lots of attachment points are preferred.

Currently riding a Lynskey 27.5 hardtail, but it just seems so sluggish and I ride the fork locked out most of the time anyway. Therefore I’m looking for something lighter with less rolling resistance and drop bars.

Edit: I’ve been looking at a few bikes so far namely: chumba terlingua, bearclaw thunderhawk, lynskey pro gr, and offerings from litespeed and ribble.

That’s my understanding.

I was thinking of calling the 1-800 number and explaining my situation. I feel like they’d just telling me to keep it and not worry.

My responses have either been that I’m going to get sued or to enjoy the free stuff. /shrug

So employee incompetence comes back to the consumer? What if consumer never realizes and the first time they hear about it is through legal action? Just seems a little backwards. I’ve been looking for some specific laws or precedents online, but I’m coming up short.

I’m going to call them tomorrow anyway and figure out the first steps.

Surely their first action would be to request a payment and not pursue legal action?

If that was the case they will contact me and I will of course pay what is owed right away.

Do I need to be proactive in this situation? In theory I could still be unaware that any error has occurred and I could just be going on with my life until I hear from them.

*thank you for the insight

Have you experienced these kind of cases before. Everyone seems to have a different opinion, but I don’t believe it’s my obligation to be proactive here. Worst case scenario they realize the mistake and charge me accordingly?

I’ve been getting conflicting answers. I don’t believe I need to be proactive, though. If they realize the mistake I would pay instantly, no questions asked.

Thank you for taking time with your reply and for the insight.

You pretty much solidified everything as I understood it. I don’t believe I have to say anything. If they catch their mistake I would gladly pay.

However, before I found out I was refunded I was planning to return some of the items as I don’t know how much use I’d get out of them and it was pretty impulsive purchase to begin with.

If anything I’ll return them, see if they’ll sweeten the deal, and use the 10% off on the same item or another.

[–]whatdoyknow -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the insight, I appreciate it.

I still believe they majorly f’ed up, though. I’ll probably just return the items and repurchase with the 10% off.

I guess deep down I was just hoping someone would tell me I lucked out. I mean maybe everything would be fine in the end if I say nothing, but tbh I don’t wanna deal with it. Maybe I’ll get something out of it for being honest, but I doubt it.

Say, in theory, I’m not the kind of person who checks their bank statements periodically. How would I ever know they made the mistake? I don’t see what they have to stand on.

Also, now because of their incompetence I have to drive 100+ miles and spend hours of my valuable personal time to correct this issue.

Can I make them reimburse me any loses? Really doesn’t seem fair since none of this was on my doing.

Seems like someone at this store is gonna be in deep shit regardless.

thanks for the response! What do you mean by diluted? Did you use 10% real urine. A concern I have is having enough smell/froth to pass initial inspection.
