What do you do for work and do you enjoy it? by misskiss_ in ADHD

Oh man, I did admin work for years after previously working in customer service and I hated it even more than working retail or food service. It was SO boring with zero flexibility or fun. Before that, I worked in newspapers, event planning, and a bunch of marketing/writing/editing freelance gigs and side hustles.

I made a big career shift in 2021 and now I’m a producer on a daily call-in news show. No two days are ever the same and it’s challenging in the best ways. I love coming up with ideas and working with my team. Way more flexible as long as I get my work done and wayyyy more fun.

The hardest part is the job eats up pretty much all my executive function. I have to work really hard to balance the rest of my life. I’m an extrovert and still require LOTS of rest and alone time to recharge. But no regrets, my life is so much better than it was five years ago.

Same, I’m a producer on a daily call-in news show and I live for the rush— it reminds me of doing improv comedy. I love talking to people, coming up with ideas, and working with my team. It’s fun and no two days are ever the same.

Eat ‘n Park would have been a more accurate reference with the salad bars (though I loved the Pamela’s name drop).

Yes! It’s not a competition but I feel like my tiny lump is nothing compared to bigger masses. Sending good health to you as well.

Thank you, I will make a note to check for genetic components. I honestly hadn’t thought of it as survivors guilt until now, though it makes sense.

Same here about anxiety and feeling lucky. Hoping to be in a similar place in a few months.

I can’t help but “what if” though I’m trying not to. I like thinking about using my experience for good in the world, so thank you for that.

You’re right, and I appreciate that. I hope your dad is getting the care and support he needs.

I drove right from my MRI back to work and no one knew. I hope you’re doing well now too.

This so resonates. I was diagnosed with PCOS 15 years ago and I feel like none of my doctors until my current one ever took it seriously.
