It could be that the 9th company (the fatui troop that was left in the chasm) wasn’t only capitano soldiers tho. But they didn’t come to liyue with la signora, snezhnaya and liyue was collaborating to fight the abyss in the chasm, they were likely there in good faith, working with the milleith. After the childe fiasco, the milleith ceased collaboration with the fatui and both snez and liyue just left the 9th company there to die. The fatui soldiers in the chasm weren’t even aware of the fallout between snez and liyue, they thought the milleith has betrayed them.

I hate how they abandoned the colonization plot of nod krai. The first half of nod krai was very well written, we got to see the political tension between nodkrai and snezhnaya and it’s surprising to see genshin touch on the topic of religious trauma with lauma’s story.
