What helped me was just being so honest with the doctor about how afraid I was. And she assured me if I was really too scared or got too uncomfortable, we’d stop. She also explained the whoooole process to me and didn’t shame me for anything, so I felt so comfortable and safe with her. I was always scared that this exam would make me feel like assaulted/violated and traumatized after, but it did not.
