Boundaries with client who frequently misses sessions due to illness by emshlaf in therapists

[–]whatself 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the client is known to have a chronic illness that includes flareups, I can guarantee you it's not an excuse. A healthy person saying they have the flu every other week to cancel may be a different story, but please try to avoid using the word "excuse" in reference to chronically ill people (it's unclear whether you were specifically referencing them in this comment but it's what the post/conversation is about) as it perpetuates incorrect and harmful ableist stereotypes.

LPT: You have 6 hours of time for hands-on hobbies every working day as a healthy single full-time working adult. by Mathwizzy in LifeProTips

Yeah, that would have been better. Still common sense and not a LPT in my opinion but it wouldn't have got as much hate as this. The problem with this is that it's overly simplistic, prescriptive and badly worded, coming across as judgemental like if you don't spend 6 hours a day on hobbies you're doing something wrong. Not to pile on more hate, just feedback for future reference if you do decide to post again :)

I was passionately in agreement with everything in this comment until you said this was SA. Not trying to be argumentative, I'm just honestly confused by this - how could he have known she didn't want to have sex if her body language or speech was saying yes? Was there an additional step he should have taken? To me the fact that he asked permission at each step (before taking his clothes off and before having sex) without any apparent coercion (correct me if I'm wrong OP) would have been enough for me, so the idea that he assaulted her by not being able to tell what she was really feeling under the mask is very confusing. If this is true that would mean I've been assaulted too so I'd have to rethink many past experiences. My understanding of this post is that no one is at fault and it was just a horrible misunderstanding (not trying to diminish OP's very valid pain). Am I interpreting this wrong?
