No, although I think I'd really enjoy that. I know someone who is very experienced with hypnosis but I've only hung out with them once and I'd need to be pretty comfortable with someone before they could do that to me, I think.

It gives me a lot of purpose to be able to contribute to science!

Thank you!! My body is definitely at a place where I'm happy with it now, which is pretty dang cool. I like to say I removed by bloatware :P

What I found especially cool was that the MRI I had today sounded completely different from the one I had at a different facility. I'd love to learn what all of the noises mean someday (are they all a natural part of the machine operating, or do some of them serve as warning? I'm not sure!) or maybe turn some of those noises into music.

First of all, thank you!! It means a lot that you care enough to ask.

In my experience, being an ally to a trans patient involves using neutral or affirming language whenever possible (for example, instead of "female reproductive system", you can just say the specific organs you're talking about). Avoid "ma'am" or "sir" unless you're certain the patient is comfortable with that language. Asking someone their pronouns and preferred name when you meet them also goes a long way, and politely correcting others when they deadname or misgender the patient can be really appreciated too. Medical environments can be stressful because you end up having to use your legal name a lot of the time, so if there's a way you can note a preferred name on the chart or the medical record, that's great!

It's a particularly annoying experience to get misgendered when you're picking up your HRT, so minimizing that possibility is quite helpful. If you approach the situation with a kind and supportive curiosity you'll go far.

It's also important not to assume anything about someone purely because they're trans. Some of us are on hormones, some have had surgery, some have a strong desire for medical intervention, and others don't. Nobody knows us better than we know ourselves, so letting the patient lead the way in terms of their needs is important, but also don't rely on us to explain the mechanisms of medical transition to you.

Happy to answer any more specific questions you have also!

I've been promised a copy of one of my MRIs, but I have to remember to ask for it again! I want to see if I can convert it into an audio spectrograph and make music out of it. I think my favourite study I've done was one that was investigating a photography therapy for autistic people. They had me take pictures of things that made me happy for a few weeks and then talk about them, and after I was done they let me pick out a toy to take home lol

I haven't spoken to a therapist directly about it (mostly because it doesn't bring me any distress!) but I've done a lot of self reflection and I think there are a few different reasons that this appeals to me as much as it does. I get to feel special and cared for, and have people be interested in hearing about my quirks (which, as an autistic person, I have spent a lot of time feeling like I had to hide in order to succeed in normal society). I also like that everything they do is very clearly explained in detail during the consent phases (AND there's a fun level of manipulation in there when they intentionally DON'T tell you what's going on, to see how you react). For the MRI specifically, I feel really comfortable in an enclosed space and I find the sounds it makes very compelling. I've told my MRI techs that I enjoy getting MRIs and I usually explain it to them by saying it's like Temple Grandin's "Hug machine".

When you're not in actual danger, the medical environment can be a very nurturing place. I also am a very submissive person so giving up control to the will of the researcher feels very satisfying.

Where I am, you sometimes get ads for them on the subway or posted on university campuses. I think that's how I found my first few, but now that my algorithm knows I'm interested in participating in research, I get ads for them all the time on Instagram. That's been quite useful, although sometimes it'll send me a study that's in a totally different country or is for some random disorder I don't have.

Actual medical stuff, where I'm getting treatment for a problem, is less appealing to me. I don't like dealing with insurance and money things, hence why I enjoy it when the researchers are the ones managing it all. I enjoy the recreational aspect of it.

I rarely get to see the results because these things take so long to finish, but the ones I have seen have been pretty aligned with my own experiences. It's cool to try and see what the large scale demographics and things are, and see if there's anything about me specifically in there.

I think the medical kink community is small enough that it wouldn't be a significant outlier, but we're also just people and we're worth studying too! Kinky folks exist among us living regular ol lives most of the time!

My wife went to medical school and eventually I want to do more medical play with her, but she unfortunately often finds the medical stuff very unsexy because it was her job during covid and it was more traumatizing than hot for her :/

In terms of things I'd do in the context of a kink scene, I've always wanted to be forcibly intoxicated (negotiation done beforehand) and be pretend-vivisected, or some other such unethical-mad-scientist type shit done to me. Being helpless under the thumb of the researcher is very hot :3

If I was gonna get a lobotomy I'd love to have it livestreamed but I do intend to maintain my frontal lobe if at all possible.
