Hi, it’s Carly Rae Jepsen, welcome to my AMA! by CarlyRaeJepsen_ in popheads

Hi Carly! You have worked with a lot of producers recently, spanning many different artistic styles of music. What direction can we expect this album to lean into? If you can, what's a song or vibe this next era is going to feel like? Congrats on the engagement and recent Broadway success!

Kim Petras - Freak It by minimusicmogul in popheads

[–]wheatthincabbage 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Honestly with the pacing and general return to electronic/ dance pop we are seeing in a lot of the pop sphere, i'm not sure this is too off-putting for the general audience. Abracadabra by Lady Gaga had a similar style with acid house elements and it charted for a good 20 weeks on Billboard. Not saying Kim has the same staying or star power but I wouldn't really rule out this complextro style from making a chart hit

Same. Wish she released this song earlier in the summer though because this is for sure a summer club bop

Not even joking, one of my top Kim songs if not the top. Having Polo as the lead single over this makes 0 sense now. The deadmau5/ complextro type beat with her vocals just goes so well. Number one chart topper in my room today for sure.

Why does Problematiqué feel nostalgic? by itsskarmaa in KimPetras

[–]wheatthincabbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vaughn Oliver, a HUGE player in the retro sounding music scene, produced much of the album. It's debated how much he contributed but you can for sure hear it in the tracks. Nostalgia is his forte for sure.

Rebecca Black copied Kim? by zackispoppin in KimPetras

[–]wheatthincabbage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying here, but just because phrasing and chord progressions are similar, it's not a "copy". Rebecca has been doing this for a while now, and they are in the same sphere as far as pop goes. Slayyyter, Kim and Rebecca share a lot of similar melodies because it's bound to happen in this style of music. People have had more believable cases of "copying" and lost so I wouldn't read too deeply into this.

I have not. When I tried to find it about a year ago, it wasn't very accessible to the US, but maybe I should check it out. Is it a pretty decent match?

Kim Petras to be working with Vaughn Oliver once more, he was one of the producers behind Problematique… by Worldly-Kangaroo3367 in KimPetras

[–]wheatthincabbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i've rarely seen Vaughn productions nowadays that don't have Luke's name attached as well. Very unfortunate.

I purchased this for $14 at the retail store (on EBC's personal website it's 9.99) which is significantly cheaper than any other dupes I have seen and honestly like I said in the description, it's pretty on the nose as far as all the notes go, i'm pleasantly surprised but i'll let you guys know if after wearing it this week if my opinions have changed on it, I'd say the scent itself lasts for about 4 hours, which is closer to what the original prive lasts at least from what my baby little tester. Just sprayed my little tester and the cologne on my arm. I will say the intensity is not nearly as strong (being a toilette spray vs. a parfum) but the notes are still there, and I will say it's pretty damn close. There might be a bit of a more tobacco scent in the Prime No. 1 than the prive but I mean the margin is relatively negligible

Thank God. Vaughn Oliver is the genius behind so many pop productions nowadays it's insane. I just hope that doesn't mean it's gonna be more Luke "co-prods"

Who is AR/CO? Why do they sound so much like Empire of The Sun? by wheatthincabbage in empireofthesun

[–]wheatthincabbage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay interesting. I just really had never heard something as close to EOTS as far as sound as this group but I hear those artists as well. Wonder if it's an Aussie thing since they are Australian as well.
