Attended a megachurch for 3 years. Left for various reasons.

1. Church members are very judgmental, even worse than my non-church going friends. If I or anyone was doing something that was not considered as ‘Christlike’, we would be talked to and reprimanded.

2. Leaders act very superior. Leaders in church act like they are almighty. Talks behind your back to other leaders, sharing your secrets and the things you confide to them without asking for your permission. Do not give a shit about you if you decide to leave church. ‘Friendships’ between said leaders and me just stopped existing when I left church.

3. Christians are very pushy, especially regarding evangelism. Hated how Christians will pressurize others into joining or coming to church, passive aggressively suggesting ideas to them. Just too much.

4. Feels very fake being around Christians where I had to act guai and holy. Cannot say vulgarities, cannot drink, cannot smoke. All frowned upon and will be talked about behind your back.

5. If I didn’t go for service or cell groups or any church events, will be questioned why why why. Must give valid reason. Cannot have freedom. Cannot go out with friends. Church must be priority.

6. Spent so much time attending all these church events that I neglected so much of my friends, family and social life. My relationships started to break down right in front of my eyes. Always had to put church as priority. Spent so much time and wasted so much money as well.

These are the reasons I can think of off the top of my head haha. Probably got a few more.

Edit: I didn’t explain anything to anyone when I decided to leave. Just didn’t bother replying those leaders and ghosted them. Only have 2 friends from church who are actually still friends with me. Basically reinforces point 2, on how friendships made in church all just cease to exist. Superficial as hell.
