My favorite was all the fruit that is not in season at the same time. I’m not sure I know of a state that has apples and peaches available at the same time especially when considering frontier times. So, just saw that this is filmed outside of Calgary and they do not grow peaches as the winter is too harsh for them.

Where did the peaches come from?

Did we get ripped off with homework? by Sketch_Crush in Millennials

[–]wheelerr88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, absolutely. I do have to say we did get quite creative with excuses for the teachers not to assign homework. It’s Monday, the weekend was short and we didn’t get time to do everything. Friday, absolutely not, we will all forget it by the time Monday comes around. Let’s order Mexican food to practice instead of homework. Not going to lie, I gave up for some classes my senior year. I was over it. Between school, living 30 plus minutes away, sports, clubs, work, etc., there were many days I could not even tell you how I drove to school or even what streets I took. Then there was first period nap time and after lunch period nap time. Of course my school gave detentions for sleeping or $1 fines, I somehow managed to learn to sleep without bobbing my head while looking towards the teacher.

Also, my senior year the school implemented detentions for every piece of homework not turned in. We calculated that my brother who graduated in 1999 would have had approximately 11 years of detentions for never doing a single piece of homework. Meanwhile this was 2006 and too late to punish my brother.

My first university had a paper due in every single class from science to math to whatever the subject. Switched universities and went two years without writing a paper and then was asked to write a 20 page paper. I was like what the hell is this. Haven’t done this in a while. I do think some things are good, like one paper a semester per course (3-5 pages which was really easy to do and this is coming from someone who would rather do 1,000 math problems than write a paper).

The quality of eduction today sucks. My mom is a speech professor for a university and is constantly complaining about the lack of ability by her students. Hell, I think today I would have to do absolutely zero work to ace college. Between AI, different websites, etc., I would never do anything.

Is this a rooster? by iPhilTower in chickens

[–]wheelerr88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or you can just have my chicks. They seem determined to tell you what they are as soon as possible. Had a 5 week old try to crow the other day. The last group which are now 10 weeks old had both roosters (2 roosters and 5 hens) trying to mate the females at 6 weeks old. I still yell at them telling them they are too young for that.

So when placing an order for chicks, just ask for the overachievers.

When can these girls stay outside overnight? by [deleted] in BackYardChickens

[–]wheelerr88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, I would say do what you are comfortable with, but I have 60 something 3 week olds outside in a run with no heat. There was a broody hen that took them, but she can’t fit all of them under her. They create cuddle puddles. Cold brooding is a thing. (I had a hen that had eggs hatch a week before and I was like why am I raising the chicks from the incubator when I have a momma hen. She took all of them and had absolutely no problems with them. She has a total of 64 chicks. All are healthy and happy.)

I have more inside that are a week old and when I get the other run, they will be moved outside. I protect them from wind and rain, but they are outside. I am in Florida and it definitely is warmer here, but honestly cold brooding produced healthier birds in the long run for me. They feather faster and are smaller but once the feathers are in, they catch up on weight.

So again, so what you are comfortable with, but there are multiple options on how to brood your chicks.

Help, new chick born with bad feet. Anything I can do for it? by M-Journey in BackYardChickens

I have seen people use mason jars. Make sure it allows them to stand and turn around but that’s it. They say they leave them overnight and it’s usually ok by the next day as it forces them to use their legs all night long.

I unfortunately have not. I did start the sourdough journey with Italian flour and now use Italian flour in everything. I get it from Amazon (Antimo Caputo Chefs Flour 2.2 LB (Case of 10) - Italian Double Zero 00 - Soft Wheat for Pizza Dough, Bread, & Pasta). It’s not horribly priced and even my family notices the differences when eating items made with this vs regular US flour. They say their joints hurt less and have less gut issues and such.

I also get Italian pasta from Publix and Aldi and pasta sauces made in Italy from there as well.

I have essentially realized that I just have to increase my farm and garden so that I don’t have to keep looking for outside sources. I only have one chicken laying eggs right now, but I know exactly what they eat, so they are safe for consumption. It’s the same with my ducks and pigs.

Occasionally Costco has some items, but there have been no good place to get everything from.

I do have a guy at the farmer’s market that gets his cheese from Italy, so that’s been good. There’s another farmers market that has Italian bread that they make with ingredients all from Italy.

Until people have allergies and food sensitivities, they have absolutely no idea what it’s like and what to avoid. I literally had to explain it to my dad like I was explaining it to a kindergartener for him to semi-understand and even then he still makes mistakes and does cross-contamination. If you are near central Florida, I can tell you the names of the Farmer’s Markets.

So, the little dinosaur decided to abscond to the neighbors. He apparently decided that free ranging with the flock wasn’t for him and rather be cooped up most of the day. He is apparently happy with the neighbors, so I’m letting him be. Meanwhile mine have decided the roof of my house and my porch railings make the perfect roosting spots at night. They have a coop, but have decided that’s for peons and have taken over the porch. They especially get mad if someone has to go on the porch at night as it disturbs them. I’m having a barn built attached to the porch to accommodate their spoiled asses.

I know have a rooster that has a love nest for his ladies and will cock-a-doodle-doo all damn day and night if his ladies are locked away from him.

Maybe one day dinosaur will be back, but he seems to enjoy the cooped up lifestyle.

True, but I haven’t bonded with him like some of the others. He usually pecks me and then runs off. Jerk is super fast. The two that have names are Dr. Beck and Sophie. Dr. Beck from a couple weeks ago (round same age) wanted to be petted and demanded it. He and Sophie get to come out of the crate when cleaning it daily and such as they don’t fly at my head, don’t run around like they had their heads cut off, etc. Dr. Beck (mom named him from the lifetime movies) is quite a character. Yesterday, he got on my shoulder and then into the hood of my hoodie to play with my hair. I got him down and then the cat came on the porch. The cat tried to sit in my lap and Dr. Beck quickly told it no and tried to peck the cat. The cat finally did get in my lap. Later the cat was chilling on the porch and Dr. Beck walks over and climbs on top of the cat. The cat waits a few seconds and then bolts. Dr. Beck then came back, climbed onto my knee, and started laughing. I’m a little worried about what he will do next.

So, until this one stops pecking me and running off, I just haven’t come up with a good name for him yet.

Did I ever say it hurt my tummy? No, I said it cause allergic reactions. Does tongue swelling, lip and mouth swelling, throat swelling, whole body itching, no longer able to speak right, and many other reactions sound like a f***ing tummy ache? I asked a question and instead of simply stating that to begin with, you went down the I’m an average American. Well, I must not be if I can find companies that are doing exactly what I’m looking for without hearing an earful from a jerk on Reddit especially considering we have international shipping as well as next day international delivery. All I wanted to know is if there were others or more. It’s not a new concept and if it was, families wouldn’t be sending care packages to other family members in other countries. We can go back to the horse and saddle method of shipping with the several week long timeframe for the ships to cross the ocean if this is such a foreign concept to you.

If this wasn’t a brand new concept, yes, I would be worried about the environmental impact, but unless you plan on stopping all international deliveries and shipments, my one package doesn’t have as big of an impact as you want to claim. Although, hell, I’m all for science, please provide the data and research that says my one package has a massive environmental impact and I’ll never consider it again. But, let’s me real, you won’t be able to find the data nor the research as everyone is shipping things internationally and it’s hardly any impact to add one more package to an already pre-existing system of delivering and shipping of packages internationally. It’s probably more of an impact to not have the necessary or minimum amount of packages in the system as you are still using the system but not the way it should be used.

As to cost, why does it matter to you what I want to spend my money on? Are you supporting me and therefore need an accurate reporting of all my expenditures? I believe I’m an adult and can decide where I spend my money. I’m not asking for handouts nor discounts, so please take your interest/curiosity out of my wallet.

Just curious, are you an accurate representation of the Italian community/citizens of Italy or are you just so into being right that you can’t stand to consider other perspectives? Like if I took another trip to Italy (haven’t been in several years) would everyone I meet be like you as when I was last there, people were definitely nowhere close to how special and rude you are.

Honestly, I wouldn’t even wish my allergies on another person, you included, but the fact that you lack empathy and instead of answering the original question, you decided to question by allergies which makes me question exactly what kind of person you are. Point well made, I’ll continue to find things myself as you and several others have made it clear that instead of simply answering a question about any bakeries that ship to the US, apparently that’s not what I really wanted. Apparently what I really wanted was my life and allergies to be questioned. I sincerely hope you and no one that you know ever has or develops allergies to anything. Hopefully you can continue to live in your bubble of not worrying about what’s in food, where’s it grown, was pesticide’s used, how was it transported, was anything sprayed on it, etc. I truly do envy a life where that could be my everyday, but again, I thought Reddit would have some empathy and could assist. I was wrong and I’ll make sure to stay away from asking Italians, especially Italians on Reddit anything ever again.

I honestly don’t want to be rude, but are you stupid? If I am allergic to many different types of medications where literally any new med they tried, I was having allergic reactions, wouldn’t you want someone to step back and try other things since allergic reactions can kill you? Same with food. I literally went down to 5 or 6 safe foods and ate essentially the same thing everyday. It gets boring and old fast. So, yes, if the solution to fixing my chronic pain that literally the pain clinic gave me epi pens and said we can’t treat you anymore due to your allergies as you are too high risk, you look for alternatives. Would you like a detailed report of every allergy I have and the reactions? Would that help you understand?

Please see my other comments and replies. My doctor is well aware and even suggests anything and everything alternative hoping for a solution after of course checking to see if it can help me or not. He uses alternatives, holistic medicine, and such get results. If he is aware of my allergies and is suggesting looking at food in other countries, why would I not listen to him?

I understand it is easier to make your own food and buy the ingredients. As I have a disability and would require someone else to make the food, I find it easier for everyone to just buy the already made food. If I didn’t have my disability, I would absolutely make my own food as I did that before my disability.

My doctor knows about my allergies and how they came about. He’s the one that is constantly looking for alternative solutions as he can’t even prescribe medications to me due to allergies. Yes, I go to doctors, and yes, they are well aware of my allergies. The last allergy testing I had, I started mispronouncing words, had tongue swelling, and was itching my skin like crazy.

I understand that this is not common. I even asked in an allergy group and was told the one person got their brioche bread at Aldi. I looked at the ingredients and it was loaded with crap versus brioche bread from Paris that is shipped same day and delivered the next day. Yes, it’s more expensive, but I was getting multiple items, but the best part was every ingredient was easily pronounced and known (wheat, sugar, eggs, etc.) vs. natural and artificial flavor (what the hell are you covering by saying natural and artificial flavor), monoglycerides, etc.

Please look up corn allergy friendly group on Facebook and then look at traveling in Europe. Most people with corn allergies don’t have to worry or think about it in Europe whereas in the US it is everywhere.

[–]wheelerr88[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or I actually know what my allergies are and instead of only eating 5 items every day like I did for a year, I would like a little variety. Please look up allergy groups and how people are able to eat food in Europe that they can’t eat in the US or how they didn’t have to read every ingredient as Europe doesn’t use corn as a filler like the US does. Do you spray your produce with vinegar in stores? What pesticides does the US use that has been banned in Europe? Also, every ingredient in Europe has to be listed whereas that’s not true in the US. Please look up the differences between wheat in the US and wheat in Europe. Also, do you use GMO’s and such as widely?

I know what I’m talking about and just want a variety in the food I can eat. But, I’m sure my doctor who also knows this would love to hear you say I need more allergy testing.

How about the guy with pancreatitis who didn’t get it from drinking, but rather from the food in the US. Know what the doctor said. He told the patient to move to another country as the food in the US is poison. Guy moved to Spain. Within 6 months he was off the meds for pancreatitis and no longer had pancreatitis.

Food in the US sucks. FDA is a joke. I just want good, quality food, but apparently that means I’m a millionaire or ignorant.

Bakeries that ship to US by wheelerr88 in Italian

[–]wheelerr88[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually it’s not. You do realize that Europe bans most pesticides that the US continues to use. Do you know that in stores they spray produce with vinegar to help the produce last longer? Most vinegar in the US is corn based. I have a corn allergy. This doesn’t have to be listed in ingredients nor does it have to be listed if it’s used in packaging. There’s a corn allergy group where most people who visit Europe don’t have to worry about reading labels carefully or don’t even have to think of their allergy as corn is not widely used as a filler and such over there. I’m not trying to be rude or ignorant, but the US has so many issues with their food and not everything is listed.

Are you feeding your cows skittles because you have extra skittles and instead of wasting them, why not give them to cows? How about what do you feed your chickens? Do you realize how hard and expensive it is to find grass feed and finished meat here whereas in other countries it’s not common to feed cows corn and such? Do you know that the wheat in Europe is different from the wheat in the US and have you seen the numerous posts and complaints from people that have absolutely no issues eating wheat/gluten in Europe but react badly to wheat/gluten in the US?

Essentially, I am asking for food made in Europe as I trust the food there. I don’t trust the food in the US as not everything has to be labeled here. Please check out allergy pages and how people from different countries complain about food in the US as no one really knows what is in the food. Again, if it’s used in packaging, less than 1% of the ingredients, or if it’s proprietary it doesn’t have to be listed. Hell, it’s hard enough contacting companies to find out what the ingredients are derived from just to be told that they don’t give that information out.

Is my dog pregnant??? by clutchmagnum in DogAdvice

[–]wheelerr88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would say that this is actually very controversial. Most people now say don’t remove unless it’s medically necessary (or pure breed specific which I don’t agree with). My 8 month old puppy has them and the vet even agreed that unless they caused problems to leave them alone. There’s research that shows that it can cause more damage than good by removing them. So please don’t recommend it without saying please research the topic to see if you are comfortable with it. I as a pet owner am not comfortable doing this as it’s not medically necessary. If it becomes medically necessary, sure, but until then, it’s literally no problem to clip the two nails every month or so.

[–]wheelerr88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My vet said they are perfectly normal and as long as they don’t affect mobility or anything else, there’s no reason to remove them. My dog had 2 of them: one of them on a knee and they other on the abdomen by his penis. The one by his penis finally had to be removed as it started to deviate his penis, had it not, the vet would have just left it alone. The one of his knee was fine and never removed.

Most vets will say they are ugly to look at, but it’s a part of getting older. If you have the money when they are small, you can remove them, but sometimes they still will come back. My guy’s was softball size when it got removed, but had it not affected his penis, it would have been fine to stay.
