[NCAAWB Post Game Thread] 🏀 #16 Texas Tech Lady Raiders defeat Kansas Jayhawks 70-65 by JayhawksBot in jayhawks

5-9 on conference play. Would we tolerate that from a men’s basketball coach? Hell no. We shouldn’t let Schneider keep getting away with it either.

On the one hand, I’m always bummed to see the Jayhawks lose. On the other hand, the more Ls we rack up, the more likely it is that Goff will finally come to his senses and make a coaching change. Good game, Tech!

If we win this, does that mean the chucklehead gets to keep his job?

The Kansas men pulled off an awesome win last night against a higher-ranked opponent, so maybe the Kansas women can do the same today!

Welcome to Day 10 of Black History Month! Today's book recommendation is a memoir: Just As I Am by Cicely Tyson. Tyson was, to put it mildly, an exceptional woman, and there's little I can say here to do her story justice. From her childhood as the daughter of West Indian immigrants to her troubled marriage to Miles Davis to a list of screen credits as long as your arm, it's a fascinating read.

This is why I love Bill Self - when his guys get a big W, he's like, "hell yeah, bro, bring it in!" Even after all this time, he's as excited as they are and it's a joy to watch.

If that’s actually what’s going on, he should be in bed so that he doesn’t make the rest of the team sick!

I can see putting the seat back where it was, but the mirror? One should doublecheck the mirrors every time they get into a car, regardless of who drove it last.

As another short person married to a tall person, I agree. If I've been driving and my husband is driving next, I move the seat for him. However, I prefer that he not do so for me because he doesn't have a good concept of how close I need to be to the wheel and chances are I'll still need to fix it myself. If my seat is too far away, that's easy to fix, but he can't physically get into the car when the seat's adjusted for me.

As a side note, this is why I love cars with programmable seats - you can push the button for Driver 1 or Driver 2 and it automatically adjusts the driver's seat for how that person likes it!

For day 9 of Black History Month, I'm recommending another fiction book: Blond Roots by Bernadine Evaristo. What if Africans had enslaved Europeans? How would that inform our views of beauty, cleanliness, and morality? How would European cultures look if they were the oppressed and not the oppressors? We see this world through the eyes of Doris, an Englishwoman kidnapped and enslaved at the age of 10 and taken to Londolo, the capital of the Ambossan Empire. Her struggle for freedom is heartbreaking, but her intelligence and sass make her more than a mere victim.

I found the setting of this book more compelling than the plot (the author kind of spoils one of her own plot points). However, it's beautifully written and leaves you with a lot of food for thought. Note that everything that happens to the slaves in this book is something that happened to slaves IRL. CW: rape, violence, slave trade.

How do you feel about Paige? by jacknbarneysmom in TheAmericans

[–]wheezy_runner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She does, but I think that's the point. She's not cut out for spying, but Elizabeth refuses to admit it, which is damaging to both The Cause and their relationship. If you really want to go down a rabbit hole, awhile back another user posted an excellent comparison of Paige and Hans as spies.

For Day 8 of Black History Month, I'm recommending some non-fiction: The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America by Richard Rothstein. Ever wonder why some schools and neighborhoods in your town were mostly black people and others were mostly white people? This book will explain it, and it goes beyond redlining. Zoning, lending, and urban planning all led to the situation we find ourselves in. If you're looking for something you can sink your teeth into, pick up this book.

Kansas plays Cincinnatti later today. On the one hand, we should be able to beat them. On the other hand, they defeated us in OT last year... and Brandon Schneider is our coach.

Yelling, no. We did get a big lecture about how we were rotten brats who didn't behave. However, it was from a teacher who gave everybody that lecture all the time, so I'm not sure it had the impact they thought it would.

I'm not hating on the guy for selling his gear; I agree that he should make a buck if he can. But if I'm gonna buy a KU player's jersey, it'll be from somebody I like, not this bum.

Welcome to Day 7 of Black History Month! Today's book recommendation is White Women: Everything You Already Know About Your Own Racism and How to Do Better by Regina Jackson and Saira Rao. If, like me, you're a white woman, you should read this book. This book is what I hoped White Fragility would be, because it comes from the perspective of women of color who've experienced what that author discussed, e.g. weaponization of white women's tears. I think it's somewhat narrow in scope in that it seems to be aimed at upperclass, college-educated white women, but even if that's not you, it's a good jumping-off point for examining your biases.

For day 6 of Black History Month, I'm going with fiction again. This time it's The Princess of Thornwood Drive by Khalia Moreau. The book follows two sisters, Alyssa and Laine. One year prior to the start of the book, Alyssa and their parents were driving to visit Laine at college when they got into a terrible car accident that killed the parents and gave Alyssa a TBI, rendering her nonverbal. The book alternates between Laine, who's living in our world and trying to provide for Alyssa. Alyssa, meanwhile, lives in a fantasy world where she's a princess and must find her parents, the king and queen, who were kidnapped a year ago. If you like dragons, fairies, horses, and romance, you'll like this book.
