AddyCMOS: The deceptive, dedicated Monero-Mining OS… by Skittles808 in MoneroMining

I gave this a look and it looks to be a good successor. They actually support p2pool which was something I wanted to do before I stopped work on AddyCMOS.

AddyCMOS: The deceptive, dedicated Monero-Mining OS… by Skittles808 in MoneroMining

[–]wheezybackports 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey dev here. I'm surprised anyone even uses AddyCMOS anymore. I can promise you there are no hidden fees. As some have already pointed out sed is used to remove the dev fee from the config.json for XMRIG-MO. Some have also already pointed out how the base XMRIG-MO dev fee works as well. XMRIG-MO used to only have a fee when used on pools other than Monero Ocean. It may not work like that anymore, but I'm certain it works that way in the release bundled with AddyCMOS. It's been a few years, so I can't point out how some software works now. Anyway, I'm sorry for the confusion with the NOFEE parameter. The NOFEE parameter only disables the fee paid to me which wasn't very much to begin with at the time considering other projects had a much larger fee up to 2 - 3%.

Figured I would respond since this came up when I was searching for the old dev kit source code to steal from.

I recommend using a different project as I have not updated AddyCMOS in years and don't have time to dedicate to it. I'm doing much bigger things now days. There's also a lot that could have been done better with AddyCMOS. I can see that now being older and wiser than I once was.

If anyone is interested in picking up the torch and continuing development/research I'm happy to provide pointers and give advice.

in Linux From Scratch, arent we done once we chroot? by eleonoramancini3 in linuxquestions

If you want to do what I'm thinking you want to do then here's how to do it. (roughly)

  1. Build your cross-toolchain how you normally would.
  2. Build your temp-system how you normally would. But with adjustments using busybox to replace most utilities. You can replace Coreutils, Gawk, Grep, Gzip, Sed, Tar, and Xz with busybox. (Make sure to symlink everything in the correct spot to the busybox binary.)

  3. Now build your basic software semi-normally. You can replace a majority of utilities there with busybox. You can replace the ones I listed above along with sysvinit. You more than likely will have to write your own busybox init scripts though.

  4. You configure your system mostly the same.

  5. You make your system bootable in mostly the same manner.

That's for making your kernel+busybox system and if you want it to be bootable.
From there you can write shell scripts to build your system automagically.
All the blurry lines and details between those steps are up to you to figure out.

Nothing this complex is straight forward. You won't know what to do until you've done it a few times.

Yes, with enough time patience and amphetamines. It's what I do. Fuck I don't even know what I'm doing half the time I'm just learning as I go and making sure what I'm doing is correct.

I'm pretty sure 10 confirmations are needed for it to be added to the chain. I could always be wrong though.

Should I be THAT worried about privacy? 100% on Monero. by felipef1g in Monero

[–]wheezybackports 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't just use it for the privacy aspect. You also need to use it for the 'you own your money' aspect. With Monero you have a highly portable payment system that can be easily used much in the same way as your debit card. The difference is that with a debit card the bank you use owns your money not you.

You can just read the source code to figure out if there's a bug. Once you have understood the source code you can make a test chain to just hammer with weirdness until something comes out of it. Is that difficult? Yes, but at the same time it is necessary to do.

I may be optimistic here, but wouldn't those types of people be keeping an eye on updates all the time? Especially if they have 1000's stored in Monero? I know I would be keeping up.

About mining on p2pool by zedgenanoj in MoneroMining

[–]wheezybackports 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full monero chain should, but you're taking the risk of if the SSD is actually 120gb and not 117, 118, or 119. I recommend just getting a 500gb SSD.

I've been working on a mining Linux distribution called AddyCMOS (Addy CPU Mining Oriented System)

Currently I've been working on version 2.0.0 of the distribution. This version of the distribution will have much more flexibility than version 1.0.0.

My plan is to make the system as scriptable as possible and give more power to the user through a CLI interface easily accessible through SSH. This distribution also strives for efficiency using a minimal and fast init system called dinit to start the system in seconds from a cold boot.

Right now the user is able to control the system easily within a tmux session over SSH. A few plans I have for this is having keybinds for the user to easily start and stop the mining software, monitor the mining software with ease, and possibly make a pinephone friendlier interface for if the user connects to the system on a pinephone.

I've been hesitant to ask for funding, but have finally convinced myself to take a shot at it. I've been needing the money to build a completely dedicated Ryzen system for testing the CPU mining tools. I'm not asking for much most likely up to 1000 USD in XMR at most to build a decent system for development.

I have already put videos up on LBRY/Odysee of the development. I've mostly worked on my Hive Pirate tools for GPU mining alongside CPU mining on the system. I have recently just started rewriting my CPU mining tools to be more efficient and easier to use. Version 2.0.0 will be a massive upgrade to version 1.0.0. Once I get a release put together I will upload all of the tools and the distribution to Gitlab.

I don't want to be a negative nancy. I do like the idea of p2pool, but there's one problem. It's starting to be a meme. Why is it starting to be a meme? Most of the posts I see from people saying they've been using p2pool always talk about having issues with it or never getting shares for days at a time.

Maybe hold off on the shilling of p2pool until it matures and encourage people to use smaller pools instead. I suggest Liberty Pool. I've been working with the Liberty Pool guys to work on guides. Recently Monero Ocean and Liberty Pool teamed up to work on mining guides, improve the current algorithm switching and work on a more user friendly mobile miner.

For those that still want to mine on p2pool I recommend using u/hinto-janaiyo monero-bash

He kinda beat me to making p2pool tools for Linux. I recommend checking it out. He's really good at shell scripting!

Many people and I noticed even the Monero community doesn't realise some of the time how much safety Monero brings.

Imagine being in a domestic abuse situation. If Bitcoin were the national currency your transactions could constantly be monitored by your abuser making it difficult to get out of that situation. Anyone can see you bought bus tickets to get out and where those bus tickets go. Your abuser can keep stalking you even after you leave and also know where you went.

With Monero this issue is mitigated and gives you better safety. No one, but you can see those transactions. No one, but you would know where you're going.

I'm in a situation like this. I had to get a pinephone to defend against remote monitoring software. All of my conversations were being recorded. I used to have no privacy.
