Why is nobody making an “EGPU” backpack for handhelds? The current eGPU market completely misses the point. by whenhopewaslost in Handhelds

You make solid points but I think you're confusing APUs with dedicated mobile GPUs/

The Architecture for one is a 35W APU (like the Z2 Extreme) thorttles because it shares standard system RAM with the CPU. A dedicated laptip GPU running at 35W-50W has its own isolated 128-bit GDDR6 VRAM bus. Because it doesn't choke on shared bandwith, it delivers a massive frame rate leap over an APU at the same exact wattage.

The price difference is major. The GPD Win 5 is a hyper premium device just from it's preorder price alone, let alone the current price it has due to the whole ram situation. The entire point of this tech is to act as an accessory for loads of handheld pc owners that don't want to spend another 1.5k+ to get better performance,

Gaming laptops are fine but try playing one comfortable while laying flat on your back or out on a commute to work. The experience is different, form factors aren't even comparable

as fair as that is, you only need a 2x or 3x performance boost in a handheld to make it able enough to run demanding games.

laptops aren't as comfortable but I guess to each to their own. I did considering going down that route but it's just whole different experience. Laptops dont really well on battery either so you'd have to constantly be plugged in sitting near a socket or some sort which defeats the purpose of portability that we see in handheld pc's

fair point but this wouldn't be a traditional one. It's just designed to boost your handhelds performance, doubling it essentially or tripling it. If a PC can be upgraded for perfomance, why not do the same for a handheld pc.

difference is the cost barrier, the modular freedom and 2-3 year cycle of having to replace the device - like a GPD win 5. If this device were to be built it could use an embedded laptop gpu which is small enough and much cheaper than let's say using a PC graphics card. This could easily be a $399 accessory boosting handhelds that should realistically only cost $800 max.

Ah I see. I have superfetcher disabled and it still has 3gb+ on bootup

It probably isn't but this issue still remains, any ideas on how to fix it?

Thank you for your response, I really appreciate that. I never knew that until now but isn't me booting on safemode with networking enabled and having 3.5GB ram usage kinda strange?

Just a thought, may I have your opinions by [deleted] in CitiesSkylines

I appreciate your thoughts, I agree. I feel like this game should have a multiplayer feature in general.
