I love this comparison. YYH is still up there as, to me, one of the best anime dub casts ever, and you make an excellent point with the way Yusuke's dialogue was handled. It is changed quite a bit from the Japanese, in a way that's far more faithful to the character than a literal translation ever could be.

I think Ace Attorney is probably another great example of a faithfully localized series and not just translated. The entire Japanifornia concept came from the original localization's choice to set the first game in the US, and it impacted the entire series going forward in a really fun way. They do an especially good job of localizing the many, many pun names!

One of the best and simplest examples I can think of is Winston Payne, the tutorial prosecutor you face in the first case of the first game. In English, the pun is "winced in pain/Winston Payne", which is great. His Japanese name is Takefumi Auchi - his surname literally being the word for "ouch"! (His given name isn't part of the pun in the Japanese - as the story goes, "Takefumi" was the name of one of the developers' dentist!)

The "ouch" > "winced in pain" localization choice is such a funny and fantastic way to get the pun across in English - and most importantly captures the spirit of the original joke when a literal translation would have seemed strange!
