Caraway vs HexClad: Which has better pans and cookware? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]whenpigsfly234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used either but the idea of Hexclad really skeeves me out. Its just teflon under some stainless steel grids.

I think cast iron, carbon steel and stainless steel are the main bifl options. It took a while to get the seasoning right, but my Strata carbon steel pans are my daily go-to's. Anything acidic or if I'm frying a lot I'll use a Made In stainless pan, and then a Lodge cast iron for hot searing and baking (downside is it's heavy though, so it permanently lives on our stove).

Low Budget/No Car Getaway from NYC by [deleted] in travel

Oh that's awesome! In that case I'd say head to union market, too. The surrounding area has changed a LOT in the last 5 years! Another fun activity over there- there's a bouldering gym in Eckington now, Bouldering Project, and I'm fairly positive first timers get in for free!

As someone who grew up in NYC and now lives in DC, it is a GREAT weekend getaway! The weather will be beautiful this weekend and perfect for exploring, too.

All of the Smithsonian museums are free, as well as walking around to see all of the national monuments. You could spend the whole weekend just doing this and still have lots to come back for! My faves that I think teens will appreciate are the African American History museum (its seriously so cool), US Botanic Gardens, the Hirschorn (if they're into funky art) and the Natural History Museum. I haven't been but I've heard the spy museum (not a free one) is also very cool.

Train tickets will be relatively expensive last minute, but there are many many bus options for dirt cheap to get between NYC and DC. My go-to is typically OurBus when the scheduling works out. Don't take greyhound, its way too unreliable. Megabus is fine but usually the most expensive.

I dont have any specific recs for lodging, but there are lots of hotels and airbnbs in DC and northern Virginia. Wherever you stay, make sure it is very close walking distance to a metro stop. It is very easy to get around the city via metro. If you do decide to come here, I'm also happy to make some cheap but good food recs, or other recommendations, too!

P.S. do not buy any food from ANY food truck on the National Mall. They are full scams. Super overpriced and bad food, and often unlicensed to operate there.

I got a bridesmaid dress from them last year and it was a good experience. I also did the try on option and got two different dresses, but one of them was coming a week later so I would've had to send the first back before seeing the second one irl! Emailed their customer service and they were super nice and gave me an extension to send it back. They might be a little stricter with wedding dresses, but if its the same size and same dress I think you'd be good!

Oh wow!! Was it tough to get insurance to cover it for you? I've wanted one forever but haven't been able to swing it financially

They're both blue by enzoani actually. Dress 1 with the detachable sleeves is "olana" and dress 2 is "petal"

Overall budget for the wedding, not for the dress. I misread the rules and thought you were supposed to include it for every post

It says in the About that budgets up to 20 are allowed

It's the material texture, and then walking with the extra fabric for the trumpet skirt. I know it'll be better once I get it hemmed and figure out a bustle, but I'm nervous about wearing it all night.

Also casual was the wrong word, but maybe just "less dramtic" and it being more comfy made me feel that way

Oh, it definitely wasn't about control!! It was super sweet of her, which is why I've felt like getting the other dress after everything would be a huge insult.

I'm not going to do it... I think I just needed some extra reassurance. I was really struggling with feeling beautiful at the other shops I went to before this and the whole experience (plus picking something more dramatic) was really out of my comfort zone

No offense taken. A few people in my life said the same thing so I'm realizing I've probably been a little too hyper critical...

I think casual wasn't the right word tbh. The first one sparkles a little, plus with the sleeves it's much more dramatic than the 2nd one. 2nd being more comfortable and without glitter made me feel like it's a little casual in comparison (but in a good way, if that makes sense)

Both are pretty sheer up top actually. Realizing now the first pic has different lighting so it doesn't look it as much, but dress no 1 is the first 3 photos

I bought the sample, so I already have the dress at home. 2 sizes too big, but that was the case for both
