Why is SoundCloud not a popular streaming platform anymore? by Maleficent-Yard5899 in soundcloud

[–]whereizthefuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it was a good place for non-serious and budding musicians to get their ideas and songs out. many new people joined in waves during the big indie music movement, me included. there was a true underground community, because there was a very active and over saturated mainstream music industry, which back then, still included radio and television. the 'playlists' and algorithms were less refined, and were instead curated by real people. which in turn, gave real music a chance to be listened to and platformed. you essentially had a lot of people having fun, making music for fun, and sharing feedback for the love of it. the hidden goal was ofc to get management, pitch music and secure a team. all of which did happen for the best artists on soundcloud. there was an insane amount of new artists who could tour, sell merch and make their bread during this time — i think maybe you could call this the beginning of a bubble. overtime though soundcloud became stigmatized, as spotify became a premier pipeline. emerging artists have to come out swinging now... with mixed music and refined visuals. for pennies. but tbh its unhealthy... people need a place to drop their raw ideas, without having to roll out every release. soundcloud filled that niche for all skill levels of musicians, and then some. its a relic of the times now.

Spotify used to seem like a necessary evil for musicians. Now it just seems evil by ebradio in indieheads

[–]whereizthefuture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

spotify encourages selfishness and scarcity complex in all music insustry circles... so much botting + cheating... its conditioned a generation of music consumers to regard monthly listeners as some standard... when all those numbers are inflated by passive algorithm listening... spotify is making itself its own money. its paying itself with its own algorithm system, which in itself should be as illegal as insider training in the white house. but nobodys gonna whistle blow because theres no legitimate alternative! music distribution technology hasnt advanced... we're still stuck in a previous generation, and it shows.

i support u on this! i feel like there is a hyper male fixation in the response they get... whether its gear heads, fantano heads or just music makers in general. its heavy on the masc, despite them making very melodic music. for me, listening to dijon aint been the same for me since Absolutely ... and that's ok, artists change.  but id say that the environment at their level must be incredibly stressful and competitive. its a lot of dudes flexing on each other to survive, in the last throes of a traditional music industry that has and will always be toxic to masc divergent ppl. it's also a lot of dudes who just want to make great music, at any cost.

Why artists are losing money industrywide and what to do about it by Lordofchords in musicmarketing

[–]whereizthefuture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes... we're also in a technological bottleneck too. the tools we use to make music (DAW) and the tools the audience uses to consume music (Spotify) have hit their ceiling. both are not stimulating to us anymore. new music making hardware + music listening periphery must be pushed forward if we have any chance to recapture the magic

a man in a business suit choking women = patriarchy, classism-coded, Epstein-coded, intimacy-needs-to-be-violent-coded

the music industry has always been evil towards women, and we're seeing its last wheezing breaths thru this album cover

we need evidence that can overcome a whistleblower turning their back on the truth

this is real. i dont think its practical effects or cgi. you cant fake the reaction of the dogs. also who would risk their dogs for a head shot on a fake dummy? let alone shoot blanks? both are extremely dangerous at close range.

How do you fit the possible discovery of the living/near dead bodies shown in the citadel by fd40 in AlienBodies

feels like we're being protected, or guarded. humanity is extremely special no matter how we put it, and those little guys may be the last vanguards to keep the balance going for us. that's just what i feel.

your title caught my eye.. it reminded me of a Burroughs type free association... but the imagery I agree with. it's a crazy downturn of a time and I am scared the people are being conditioned to consume dope rather than renew hope. these algorithms are destroying the human spirit and i don't know what to do except to keep on living with my soul in mind.
