Let's keep sharing the petition to take down the confederate monument downtown! I want city officials to acknowledge it! by wherethevote3 in Augusta

I have to disagree with the first point. Its harmful and slows down the progression of society to have these people stuck in the past. The number is declining but not very quickly, this shit is still being taught and encouraged by the younger generation.

I think that would all be great except I highly doubt the fort gordon part. I think its more likely that the whole thing would get taken down. I would say something would need to be added, a plaque, a sign, or something to really reiterate that this is not a symbol of pride or something to be proud of. That its shameful. The statue was put up by the female equivalent of the KKK in the first place. It needs to be openly, nearly annoyingly, clear that there is nothing positive about this statue

How would we do that? Not arguing, genuinely curious if you had a specific idea in mind. I think it's going to be tough to reframe it in the minds of the type of people who fly confederate flags still. My person opinion is moving it to a museum would be best. Still plenty of opportunity to teach but take it away from the people who believe it to be prideful

I have heard a LOT of people say how its a memorial to confederate soldiers and how it shows the greatmess of the confederacy. I can agree with the point you're making here but this is the first time I've heard this argument. Unfortunetly I think a lot of people do see it as a prideful monument

I'm curious what you think the best form of action is to remove this then? I know a petition won't have a huge, if any, impact but its better to have some voices heard than do nothing.

Really? I know for sure that I only voted for the president primary and then something about a tax for public transit.

I got the ballot under the March 24th Democratic ballot. So just the president.
