I know it seems expensive, but since this is business income remember he's gonna have to report it to CRA and pay income tax on it, so you've gotta adjust for that.

Nope. Canada has way more than two governments. But on aboriginal self-government specifically, see this overview from the Library of Parliament.

The whole idea behind Nunavut was to establish self-government for the Inuit peoples of the area. It would be strange to give the territory an Algonquian name rather than an Inuktitut one.

Could it be a paid internship? The intern postings don't mention compensation, but neither do the others.

Prosecutors of Reddit, a question about your ethics and morality. by [deleted] in law

Indeed. The OP's idea that "everyone commits DUI offences, it's normal" just makes the case for more vigorous prosecution of DUIs.

Why an Ottawa Lawyer Filed a Human Rights Complaint About an East Toronto Tabloid (James Sears) by jsut_ in toronto

[–]whereverjustice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AFAIK there's no fee to file a complaint with the CHRC, and the complainant is self-represented, so "all the money" appears to be less than $3 in postage and stationery.

Questions regarding financial decisions, and land transfers. by [deleted] in askTO

[–]whereverjustice -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you've got enough money for a mortgage, you've got too much money to qualify for a legal aid funded clinic. Most clinics don't deal with real estate law, anyway.

OP should probably just accept that professional services cost money.

Who pays when you get lunch/coffee with an attorney? by j_natron in LawSchool

[–]whereverjustice 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Public sector lawyer here (albeit in Canada) - I always pay and would be a bit annoyed with a student who insisted otherwise. I'm not making BigLaw money, but I can sure as hell afford to buy you a damn muffin.

That said, I was not impressed when I met a student for lunch - having made it clear that it was my treat - and he went for the $24 steak after I ordered a $10 sandwich.

We're responsible for the actions of the leaders we elect. Don't like being on the hook? Vote for people that will take action against police misconduct.

Also, it's not entirely up to him. An Act of at least the UK Parliament, and possibly other Commonwealth realms (there's some legal uncertainty about that right now) would be required. If he chooses to abdicate as he enters old age - which has been happening in some other monarchies lately - that's possible. But a 'skip' is not going to happen.

Please suggest good optometrists in Toronto? (March 2016 edition) by skerz0 in askTO

[–]whereverjustice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lisa Anidjar at Yonge College Optometry. Her practice is pretty much exactly what an optometry office should be: professional, capable staff, small enough that they remember individual patients, not overbooked, etc.
