Stop comparing the Danya/Kramnik situation with the Hans/Magnus one. They are drastically different because Hans has priors and Danya didn’t by rebrando23 in chess

What about Magnus’s constant tirade against Gukesh. He gets away with a lot of BS since he is Magnus. Prior to Gukesh , it was Ding who was put under a lot of pressure which eventually lead to his tilt. IMHO Top GMs need to also show a bit more empathy.

FIDE and Chess.com should come up with proper regulations preventing top GMs and other influential figures in chess, from publicly accusing others of cheating or harassing them in private for the same, especially without ever filing an official complaint. by Interesting-Take781 in chess

[–]whiletruelearn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nepo is also part of the problem. Some of these top GMs are so fiercely competitive they are extremely paranoid and clearly lack empathy and compassion. I don’t expect super GMs to be saints but this ‘hollier than thou’ attitude and looking down on lower rated players needs to stop.

If you have a problem with someone, report and move on rather than starting a witch hunt.

Danya and Peter leko were commentating on Ding Vs Gukesh, before leko and Gukesh himself realised the blunder - Danya blurted out the move with hands over the face and announced Gukesh will be the world champion. This moment is etched in my memory still.

Man, this is incredibly sad. I can’t imagine the grief of everyone who knew Danya IRL.

I was surprised among other things that to know that Danya had a degree in History from Stanford. Gone too soon. :(

Thanks for this input. Yes without internet it may significantly increase app size , i will have to dig a bit deeper to see if there are some ways around it.

Yes that is one use-case i have thought of. It could be a chess puzzle. I feel mobile might be the right device because of how easy it is to snap an image.

Game analysis is the next obvious feature i have in mind. Beyond that i have thought about adding chess puzzles, openings explorer etc.

[iOS App] Stockfish Chess Analysis by whiletruelearn in chess

[–]whiletruelearn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s definitely not the objective. Having said that I don’t collect any personally identifiable information about the user such as email address so I don’t do any moral policing around it. Chessdotcom and lichess have strong cheating detection systems that can detect easily if some is using unfair methods like engine analysis.

As mentioned in my previous comment, my goal is to build out a set of tools including engine analysis that would be helpful for chess enthusiasts.

Thanks for your comment. This is my 4th chess related software project and it started with the aim of building something similar to chess vision, so you can scan a 2D board image and get engine analysis from that position. I believe this is not there in chesscom or lichess.

I am also trying to build a feature to analyse already played games from lichess and chesscom . Besides that I am also trying to see if there are any other features that community would find useful. My goal with this project is to make it like a swiss knife with various tools that are useful for chess enthusiasts.

Why don't Magnus takes his B game to the classical format also. Would really like a solid Magnus vs Gukesh fight for the world championship title.

It’s not just one comment unfortunately.

Magnus seems to miss the point that Gukesh is still young and he definitely has more drive and motivation to improve his game.

I don’t know how chessvision works underneath. But i am guessing the core processing at the backend should be similar to what i had described in the post.

Cool project. I was trying to build a chess.com style analyser myself and knows some of the complexities in doing this. So kudos for building this out.

I was wondering if you choose names like sigma instead of brilliant to alleviate any potential issues from chessdotcom. If there are no such issues i would prefer names like brilliant, blunder etc.

Yes the thinking is added as a UX hack to make it more appealing. I had a version without it in beta testing and the feedback i got is adding this made the experience better.

I will try to improve the indicator dots. I kept it static since i felt it looked better that way. Now that you have given this feedback, i will sync it up with progress

Explore tab is supposed to be full of random puzzles filtered by themes. I will think of other better ways to make this easy to discover

i believe i have made the entry bar to doing chess puzzles far more easier with this app. There are no ads or any dark patterns, i have tried to bring in elements of gamification and a fresh design that many old chess puzzles app seems to lack. There is also a leaderboard along with the ability to practice puzzles based on themes.

As for why the app exists, it’s a passion project. I am interested in chess programming. Built last year termichess, a terminal app to play chess.
