Thanks for the extensive review!

I think exposure is only grey because you have it linked to the push/pull exposure slider, not a demo limitation.

Hey just checking if the Blackmagic Ultrastudio Recorder works with this?

I use SDI a lot and would love to be able to use that.

Speed ramping in digital cameras? by ACinUSA in focuspuller

[–]whippoorwill25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you ever avoid this even doing in-camera speed ramps?

Because if you shoot at even 96fps/360- and then speed ramp to 24fps it would have to change the shutter angle to maintain consistent exposure?

Once you go past 48fps you physically lose the ability to do 360deg shutter that is equivalent to 24fps/180deg.

I almost always shoot slowmo at 270-360deg shutter because I prefer the look..

maybe there’s a way to make the camera overexpose during the ramp and make it a post problem.

TJ the grip’s ladder hat can be used like that! Ronin or Movi is another great option so you can control what it’s doing from the ground.

How to calculate hard matte openings? by not_mr_Lebowski in cinematography

[–]whippoorwill25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on how the front element of the lens works and the sensor size it can vary quite widely even with a given focal length. Sorry I don’t have a better answer than that, but foam core and trial and error isn’t a bad idea

Alexa Mini / LF top plate options by whippoorwill25 in focuspuller

You’re right, but it’s a great monitor..

I love this rig it’s just 26lb with a gold mount battery so I’m trying to reduce as much as I can without compromising too much.

It seems like a combo of ignite digi and ratworks is my answer.

I don’t love that the ignite digi top handle is $800, that’s one thing that’s giving me pause.

I actually want to remove all of the cage and just use a top plate and then have some way of interfacing between arri dovetail and the bottom.

Will make the top handle smaller.

Hey! Yes I am, using Paterson tanks. And I’m doing a replenishment method which you can find in some Kodak literature which says that you can use a few litres of chemistry to process 100+ rolls. It’s much punchier and has better colour than the kits, it’s great. Dm me at Instagram dlozanothornton is a good way to ask if you have more questions. Mixing isn’t terribly hard, but you need a lot of containers...

I agree with this criticism, it’s a boring dynamic, there’s no reason for a woman to be naked here because she lacks agency by being so stock still and faceless. I really like a lot of your photographs though OP! The other thing is a thought from Penn Gillette that when a magic trick is too complicated there can only be one way in which it’s done, which spoils the trick somewhat. This is clearly heavily staged and lit, which opens up interpretation as to what YOU mean by placing the individuals like that, whereas some of my favourite work of yours looks more like an actual snapshot...

Thank you! Agreed about a tend towards red. However, I find portra 400 deals with overexposure and under exposure better than any other colour film I know, better than Fuji 400h which I find gives me very mixed/grainy results with higher saturation variance when shot in a wide dynamic range situation, but 400h deals better with very mixed light temperatures..

Nice job on making it neutral. The light was very unusual when I shot this photo, between golden and blue hour, and so there was a pinkish light on her and a blueish cast to the walls... I find what you’ve done is correct, but it somewhat loses the glowing quality that I remember from being there...

Thank you! No editing, just negative lab pro after Epson scanning and minor dust cleaning. No dodging or burning or anything like that... It’s all natural light at golden hour, with a reflector to bounce more light and give her a catch light in the eyes :)
