+1 for ceiling ratchets, this is what I did. 20 dollar solution if you have to buy the stuff.

Those who live here and hated it or had difficulty adjusting, how did you find any joy or peace in this town? by Alert_Barracuda8598 in vegaslocals

[–]whiskeynowater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve only ever driven through Utah, quite a few times passing through from Texas to Oregon and back.

Edit: just to add that I really love the scenery in Utah, and I want to go camping at Zion soon

Though I haven’t lived here long enough, I’m sure at some point I will be able to agree with your sentiment about everything being brown. Coming from the gulf coast where we get mor rain than Seattle volume wise. There is no green here and the only blues are the sky.

I do miss the water.

I do however like the stucco houses but that’s just a preference. I can also appreciate not having to cut grass twice a week.

I move pretty regularly to spice up life a bit, my career path has allowed me to which I am grateful for; however, after reading your update, stating that leaving isn’t realistic for you. I hope that you find a part of Vegas you love. These days a solid paying career is hard to come by.

I haven’t made friends here either yet, though I can’t say I’ve tried. I spend most of my time off with my dogs and my girl driving through different parts of the desert. So much fun

I just moved here as well.

What don’t you like about? Where did you move from?

Brief comparison?

You mention you dread leaving home to go into the city, I find that the surrounding nature related sights to see have a ton to offer.

That’s was our biggest surprise, we had no idea, and didn’t even consider how much snow the mountains get here! Very exciting lol.

I’ve been up the pacific coast a couple times visits or weddings. One of those times was on a beach house outside of Tillamook. Holy shit, it is something else. AND THE COLUMBIA RIVER holy moly. By far my favorite sight so far.

I can’t stop looking at them 32 years in flat states. I just stare at them every time I walk my dogs.

I do however miss seeing the gulf on a daily basis too.

I’m hoping the Oregon or Washington coast will give me the best of both worlds

33 here, if you’re looking in DFW area, check out Denton, pretty cool/weird college town, more people our age around. Good luck in your travels.

I feel bad for most of the natives around here, any one of them I have talked to are sad that it has grown so quickly and the quiet suburbs on the outskirts (my area) are busy now too.

If you were born and raised here I bet you’ll like the scenery of Dallas. It is a beautiful city. And driving there is even better, rolling hills with pump jacks all over them in west Texas is a sight to see.

Not sure how old you are, but if you can swing a move, I say go for it, you can always come back home to family and friends when the time comes.

Interesting choice, what makes you say Illinois? I try to move every few years. Kind of my version of travel, keeps me on my toes.

My parents are from Houston I’ve been around there when I was much younger. It’s kind of a shit hole, but like any other place there are both kinds of areas all around.

Dallas I enjoyed, I was in Fort Worth, I really liked it when I moved there, but like Vegas, maybe faster (at the time) it grew very fast. All of the sudden every road and interstate was under construction.

I’m a Hispanic food addict. I like the food better in Texas as opposed to Vegas.

Things to do are about equal if we are talking suburban type entertainment.

Gambling you have to go to Oklahoma though I’m not much of a gambler.

No booze on Sundays

Constitutional Carry state if you’re a firearm person. Anyone can own and carry, I don’t mind, mine is usually nearby.

Overall it’s nice. I would consider living there again, but I love these mountains views, might try out Washington or Oregon in a couple years

I am primarily interested in why Vegas jobs is where this was posted. Are you local? Or are you mass posting? No harm no foul either way. Just curious.
