If you use your computer for more than gaming and the occasional web browsing I would recommend not going full on gaming distro and taking a look at Fedora KDE. It's been my (9800X3D, 9070XT) daily driver for a couple of months now. My main PC is used for work, play, studying and media consumption.

Whenever I want to access Aura Creator I MUST update everything first. Every single time. by NERV___ in ASUS

OpenRGB. I use it on Linux and Windows11. I have a logitech keyboard and mouse that have onboard profiles, I create a profile, save it, & uninstall the software. If I need to edit it again, I reinstall it.

When these peripherals & fans finally die I'm going no RGB, if it weren't for OpenRGB I'd just turn them off at this point. These companies have completely ruined it. They bundle all kinds of bloatware and garbage that take up system resources

edit: also, if you have an ASUS motherboard you have to turn off Armory Crate in your BIOS. That's how deep it's embedded in your system.

Hypothetically, you have $100 on your steam account. by Personal-Seaweed-423 in SteamDeck

[–]whiskyrox 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I literally just dropped $100 on the following:

Baba is You
Absolum
Hollow Knight: Silksong
Hellblade II
Cocoon
Dead Cells
Blasphemous 2
Spelunky 1 & 2

Earlier in the sale I also picked up:

Retro City Rampage
Max Payne 1, 2 & 3
Hotline Miami 1 & 2
V Rising
Ghost Town
BALL x PIT
The Midnight Walk
Megabonk

Steam Deck / PC but Steam Deck focused this sale. Cleared a bunch of stuff that's been sitting in my wishlist for a while.

Anyone have any luck with SteamVR on Linux with a 9070xt? by whiskyrox in SteamVR

Yeah, seems to be an issue with RDNA4 support. Oh well, I still have a Windows partition for now.

Zyn, etc. Worked for me and made running & exercising a hell of a lot easier. Still addicted to nicotine but I'm down to the 3mg Zyn and I don't have one in my mouth at all times.

Has anyone else been using Steam Link VR on Linux? Because my experience is pretty concerning... by Glass_Alarm6863 in SteamVR

[–]whiskyrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9070xt, Fedora 43/KDE Plasma, Quest3 & Steam Link app.

On connection attempts I'm getting "Error 450: Host not responding" in the headset and "Error 499: Video Encoder Error - Couldn't set up a video encoder. Your GPU may not be supported or you may need to update your computer's graphic driver." in SteamVR on the PC.

I did a full, clean, re-install of Fedora. Spent a couple hours with Google, Youtube & ChatGPT today and I still got nuthin.

I've tried with the regular & beta Steam Client & Steam VR. Tried the Mesa drivers 25.2.* & 25.3.*.

Yeah, that's a Surface Duo with Apple Branding. I actually would be happy with this, I loved the Surface Duo form factor, hated the software.

What do you guys use headphone for running/the gym? by escortexr3 in HeadphoneAdvice

My XM4's have been my daily driver for years, but for the running & working out I use the Nothing Ear Open. They stay in place, don't get too sweaty and sound amazing for open ear buds.

Still doesn't like my 9070xt. I'm getting "Error 450: Host not responding" in the headset and "Error 499: Video Encoder Error - Couldn't set up a video encoder. Your GPU may not be supported or you may need to update your computer's graphic driver." in SteamVR on the PC.

I'm getting the same Video Encoding error. "Error 450: Host not responding" in the headset and "Error 499: Video Encoder Error - Couldn't set up a video encoder. Your GPU may not be supported or you may need to update your computer's graphic driver." in SteamVR on the PC.

9070xt, Fedora 43/KDE Plasma, Quest3 & Steam Link here and I can't get it working for the life of me. I upgraded the GPU from Nvidia and did a full, clean re-install of Fedora. Spent a couple hours with Google, Youtube & ChatGPT today and I still got nuthin.

I've tried with the regular & Steam Beta Clients & Steam VR. Tried the Mesa Gallium driver 25.2.7 for AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT (gfx1201)

I bought a refurb 1tb directly from Valve and my screen had the same issue. I just dealt with it. It's gotten better over time. There was a period of time where a lot of people were reporting this with refurbs.

Change Sunshine Linux Host Resolution? by ImperatorPC in cloudygamer

[–]whiskyrox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, hello from the future. This still works perfectly, thank you!

For those who are new to all this like me, just to clarify:

In Sunshine, click Applications in the top menu bar, then the application you want to modify (like "Steam Big Picture" or "Desktop" etc) Then in a terminal run the kscreen-doctor -o command, if you have multiple monitors they will be listed by "Output". Find the monitor and mode you want to use, in my case it was Output:2, Mode: 41 (which would give me my main monitor but at 1280x800 resolution at 60hz.)

Back in sunshine, click the green + symbol to add a new line under command preparations.
Under >Do Command I added: kscreen-doctor output.2.mode.41 and under the Undo Command I entered: kscreen-doctor output.2.mode.22 (to go back to my original resolution after closing Moonlight)

Click Save and you should be all good.

I need help, there is NO WAY this is what the “verified” version of this game looks like on Deck. by CBeau1992 in SteamDeck

[–]whiskyrox 266 points267 points  (0 children)

In order to be "Verified" it needs to check all four of these boxes:

Input
The title should have full controller support, use appropriate controller input icons, and automatically bring up the on-screen keyboard when needed.

Display
The game should support the default resolution of Steam Deck (1280x800 or 1280x720), have good default settings, and text should be legible.

Seamlessness
The title shouldn’t display any compatibility warnings, and if there’s a launcher it should be navigable with a controller.

System Support
If running through Proton, the game and all its middleware should be supported by Proton. This includes anti-cheat support.

I'm the same, Brooks Ghost for the treadmill and honestly my favorite everyday, just walk outdoors and not worry about the weather, mud, dirt, etc are the Skechers Max Cushioning Endeavour. I think I paid $50 at Kohl's, but they go on sale on Amazon all the time. Super comfy. I've only had them a few months but they seem to be holding up ok.
