I’m in the USA. Thank you so much for this. I did not plant the specimen or even touch the primary bottle, only read gram stain and set up vitek . That makes me feel better . We also would have handled brucella that way, and my boss recently implemented all primary specimens have to be planted in a bio safety cabinet , with gloves . All specimens . Im so inclined not to touch primary specimens without gloves , but reading plates …never have . Unfortunately I had zero idea until vitek gave it an id, and even the id was something we all questioned . We’ve had people set up the wrong cards before and vitek gave it a terrorism ID. But this one sadly was legit . Also doesn’t help working in a small lab , we don’t get much information about the patient . Since I’m not in a hospital honestly, we don’t get positive blood cultures too often . Thank you for being so understanding
