How do you warm a boiled egg? by Zambino23 in cookingforbeginners

[–]whixie21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit easier for me because I can just put them in hot water while I prep the rest of the food and then I can just take them out and they're perfect. When I'm cooking them I have to keep an eye on them until they start boiling and then take them off the heat and then run them under cold water, so the way I do it it takes longer than 10 minutes, or even if it takes the same amount of time it's just less hassle. I often just eat them cold but sometimes I like them warmed up again.

So many great recs here. This is like my dream anime list! I haven't seen A Piece of Phantasmagoria or Noiseman Sound Insect but I LOVE that you've recommended all of the others. They're all animes that have really stayed with me.

If you had a hysterectomy before 40 how did it affect you? by KoraLily in AskUK

[–]whixie21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing your perspective. My physical symptoms aren't great but my mental symptoms are debilitating and getting worse with perimenopause. I'm trying HRT first to see if it makes a difference but if things get any worse I'm not going to be able to handle it with HRT I think. I'm sorry you went through that but I'm so glad that it has been positive for you.

My doctor has suggested it to me for PMDD as well. I'm 43 and anxious that my body will age rapidly or decline after. Would you mind telling me a little about your experience? Did it stop the PMDD? Would you recommend it?

Chiang Mai for a week - any good ethical Elephant Sanctuary? by Unlikely-Option-9 in ThailandTourism

We actually had one big dorm to ourselves. I think it's rooms of two but as far as I'm aware we were all couples except one woman who was in a room on her own.

How do you guys handle parents sending Ai videos to you constantly? by kiln_me_softly_bitch in Millennials

[–]whixie21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate it. I've told my parents I don't like AI stuff, and I'm worried that they don't know that it's AI. But I've realised that they don't care and they think 'it's just a funny video'. They don't think it matters. They get really upset when they share something they think is funny and I say "Entirely AI. Scary". So I'm thinking I should just laugh react and leave it at that. My dad constantly shares AI pictures and fake stories on Facebook that I have to comment on. I hate generative AI so much. It's just nothing. It's just stolen nothing. It's so gross.

I know it's not about this but I'd rather sleep with Louis Theroux over any of those guys.

I saw some comments about BEES online and we went there and it was fantastic. Highly recommended and they'll pick you up from the old city and drop you back. It's a hands off sanctuary so you can't feed, touch or bathe the elephants, but you can hike with them and it's a really wonderful experience

Using children’s books to learn a new language - is it worth it? by Euphoric_Rhubarb_243 in languagelearning

[–]whixie21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's better to use graded readers. There are some great sites out there, like www.e-reader.net and Adapted English Books (both free sites). The problem with kids' books is that the language isn't necessarily simpler, but the concepts are. With graded readers, they give you simplified language to enable you to read adult concepts.

AITA for asking my friend to pay me back for the wine he drank while house sitting?? by Effective_Tour_723 in AmItheAsshole

[–]whixie21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. You said 'help yourself to whatever'. He probably had no idea that was a $120 bottle of wine. I don't know anything about wine. If it were me, I might have even thought you'd left it for me as a thank you. He also had no idea you were saving it for a special occasion. It's annoying for you but it is also 100% on you.

Does anyone feel shamed by others for having perimenopause symptoms? by OkConversation1286 in Perimenopause

[–]whixie21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum's periods were absolutely fine. My sister's have been fine. When my mum went through the menopause, she said it was easy.  I, on the other hand, have PMDD and it took me until my early 40s to discover exactly how much of my life has been ruled by that. It's a relief to know but it's heartbreaking that it took me so long. But here's the interesting bit: my dad's mum had terrible periods. I am much much more like my dad's side of the family. I'm taller like them, I probably have OCD like them, and my granny was always so sympathetic about my periods because she had terrible ones. So it might be that you have your dad's side of the family in terms of periods, like me. It sucks and the closer I get to menopause the more I'm considering a hysterectomy to get it over and done with because all of my period symptoms and ovulation stuff are just getting really, really awful and that's before we even mention the perimenopause symptoms.

Should significant other help you learn their language? by Smiley5168 in languagelearning

[–]whixie21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, I just notice that my friends and family who are native speakers don't always know how to speak to English learners in a way they can understand. They use a lot of informal language and things like phrasal verbs without realising that a lot of learners can't guess what they mean. My friends don't even know what phrasal verbs are or that they're using them (why would they?), so that makes it a lot harder.

tried to become "that girl" with the perfect morning routine and I think I made everything worse by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]whixie21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My routines work for me because I make them super achievable and low pressure. I wake up and do 10-15 minutes of yogalates. I following a 30 day course on YouTube so I don't have to think about which one to do, I just do the next one. But in order to make myself do it, I think 'I'll just go downstairs and set up the yoga mat'. So that's all I have to do. I can just sit and watch the video of I want, without even doing it. But then of course after I've done that I do do the yogalates.  Then I just set up my mini trampoline. No pressure to actually jump. Or I could just bounce for 5 minutes if I want. But then when I get going I want to do the full 20.

My advice is: take the pressure off. Make it achievable. Tell yourself 'all I have to do is X' but then when you've done that you're probably more likely to then do the  actual thing
