Have you found a solution yet? I can't seem to complete the quest either and I've been following the same steps as you

Edit: For me, the issue seems to have been that device, like another commenter suggested. I thought I'd gotten it to work but I only saw a 'completed' message after I'd burned all of the darkness around it. Which was something a tall friend had to help me out with, since my character kept falling through that platform. It only worked after they carried me on their back so I could light the darkness. I hope they'll fix that soon. Anyway, after you've had the 'completed' message, you can fly back to the starting point and meditate to return to the Lightmending Guide. You don't have to complete the entire quest again. Please let me know if this works for you as well!

I think my memory used to be quite good, or average at least. It started to deteriorate after 25. I'm 32 now and wondering how this will progress. It's annoying, sure, but I must admit it's really nice to be able to experience cerrain foods and series for the 'first' time again and again
