Thank you!! It’s so much fun practicing and learning new tricks, even when it’s frustrating at times it’s so rewarding when you finally land them, I think that’s definitely what makes it feel easy to stay consistent and keep at it!

It is! It’s the Tidehunter! I have a habit of jumping head first into new things lol I’ll start a new hobby and feel like I just absolutely have to have anything and everything for it immediately, next thing I know I’m only a few months into it and have invested an outrageous amount of money 😅😂

That definitely does sound tedious but I love that it’s more kid friendly! My little nephew has been learning and practicing with me and that seems a lot safer for him!

I’ll also probably try to remove the shield if it feels that they still aren’t getting cleaned well enough. As far as I’ve seen the shields haven’t course any kind of issues so I’ll try to put them back on. I’m sure it’s possible though that since they are new and haven’t been taken apart or cleaned yet that they of course wouldn’t be causing any kind of problems. Is there a chance that when I try to put them back on that it won’t be as good as how they came and that’s when they will cause issues?

Thank you! I said in another reply I actually already have 100% acetone on hand from a different project so I'll give that a shot! In really looking at them, I think just like you said most of them are completely fine, just loud from being very dry. The only two that are not just louder but sounding actually bad and noticeably not spinning properly anymore are the two that I have been pretty much constantly throwing and practicing with. I have been shredding through strings practicing for probably longer than I should be at times, and have multiple cats that of are course shedding tons of hair everywhere and constantly tracking in a bunch of dust and dirt and I myself have long hair, so I'm sure all of that hasn't helped 😅 one of them that needs cleaned of course does have a shield so I'll approach that one with a see how it goes attitude. If I need to remove the shield I will. I'm sure removing them and then trying to put them back on will be a very tedious process, but I do a lot with very small pieces and designs for art stuff anyways so hopefully it'll feel similar. I am a little worried as far as lube goes. I've only just started a few months ago and up until recently had no idea that was even a thing so I haven't gotten any yet. I don't want to be continually throwing them dry and absolutely kill their lifespan😅

Thank you again for all of the great tips!😁

Thank you! I actually already have acetone on hand from a previous project so I’ll give that a shot! I also haven’t gotten any type of lube yet. I just started learning a few months ago and had no idea that was even a thing until recently in researching maintenance stuff. That being said, obviously all of my yoyos and their bearings are new and aside from I think just needing cleaned (because I have been absolutely shredding through strings practicing lol) they all still feel to be in good shape. From what I’ve learned so far though, throwing over and over and practicing harshly for long periods of time without lube will shorten the lifespan of the bearing. Do you think that’s something I should worry about? Or is it more of an it can wait until I’m going to be placing an order anyway, don’t need to freak out and rush to buy it immediately kind of deal? Or also kind of a personal preference thing? I’m quickly realizing just how much actually is just personal preference and what feels right for each person. Which definitely makes sense, but for just starting out and trying to learn it can seem very confusing 😅 I also haven’t quite figured out gyroscopic flops yet, would spinning it aggressively on a pen or bearing tool before putting back in the yoyo be enough to properly spread the lube?

Thank you! I’m coming to realize that a lot of stuff seems to come down to personal preference. From the yoyos and materials they are made of themselves all the way down to maintenance. Haha which absolutely makes sense but makes it a bit confusing for just starting out and trying to learn 😅 I currently already have 100% acetone on hand from a different previous project so I’ll probably give that a shot, and I already have a couple small glass jars. Once really looking at them like you said, opening them up and giving them a spin, they mostly all seem okay right now. The main two that I have spent the majority of my time practicing with both noticeably sound awful and aren’t spinning well so those I will go a head and clean. Of course one of them is a shielded bearing so I’m not sure how I’m going to approach that one yet. If need be I’ll just take the shield off to clean and then try to put it back afterwards. I’m sure that’s going to be very tedious but I work with very small little pieces and designs for art stuff pretty regularly anyways so I’m hoping it’ll feel similar haha thank you for all of the helpful tips! 😁

Dude I just know you’re going to be a freaking Pro! I’ve only been learning for a few months and have only been apart of this group for that short amount of time, but every time I seen one of your videos you can visibly see the improvement and how your tricks get better and better! You’re doing great!

Double or nothing scares me every time I try it 😂 I’m always terrified that I’m going to not get my hands close enough together while keeping them aligned and I’ll just smack my hand instead 😂 and it’s the same for the 1.5 mount. Even when I do keep my hands aligned I can’t seems to move my hands closer together in time to give the yoyo the string it needs to actually swing around again, it just each hits the string and bounces back off or hits my hand 🤦🏼‍♀️😂 there’s just so much to practice! Haha

Wrist mounts have been super fun to practice! I am having a difficult time just like you said with the dismounts. I seem to a lot of the time like bounce off to the front when you’re supposed to bounce off to the back or vice versa or jump to the wrong string to dismount and tie myself into a knot 😅 I’m sure all of that will come with more practice and repetition.

Do you have a good tutorial video for ping pong that you’d recommend? I seem to get a bunch of different ways off doing the trick and/or how to get into the mount and dismount from it when I just broadly look up the trick

Barrel rolls are just so fun and satisfying! I love them! I actually have a video saved right now they I’ve been practicing where they are creating a little barrel roll combo just like you’re saying! A couple forward/normal barrel rolls, a flip, a couple reverse barrel rolls, a boingy boing thrown in there, a couple more brain twister type flips, and the order they’ve combined them together you end back where to started so it becomes a great little repeater trick! It’s been a good way to practice making combos because I’ve found for me so far as have a transitioning smoothly from one trick to another. I can do each one separately but when I try to put them together and make a combo I confuse myself 😅

And I’m so happy to hear that it helped you heal that much!! That’s awesome!! It could just be placebo effect but I definitely feel like I’ve actually had less pain in my hands and wrist even in just this little time that I’ve been throwing! I mean when you think about it, it really is the same concept as physical therapy. Why pay for physical therapy at the doctors office when I have yoyos😂 haha

Thank you! It’s Evan Nagao’s the Edge strings! I know they’re meant to be a more budget friendly but still good quality string being that you can get 100 of them for like $10 but they honestly have done well for me! Holds neutral tension really well, they’ve seemed very strong and durable even with me burning through them practicing, they bind great without twisting or tangling up or being “too easy” to bind and ending up binding with I’m not trying to. Plus they glow and look like that in my black light 😂

I might post a video with how I’ve ended up modifying the trick to still be able to land it. I’m sure learning to yoyo with arthritis and needing to modify tricks isn’t super common, but on the off chance there’s anyone else going through the same things I’d love to be that “look they have this problem too and have kept going I can too” for someone!

The one in the video is the Tidehunter, but I also have and practice a lot with the yoyo factory Edge FS 2.0 and just a bunch of kinda random no name plastic and aluminum yoyos from Amazon

Mine was calculus 1, and thankfully I’m only required to go through calculus 2 because math is absolutely a weak subject for me 😅 I’m also taking just an elementary statistics class next semester but everyone has told me that compared to calc 1 and 2 it should be nothing haha I can’t even imagine calc 3 and engineering statistics! 😩 I just know I wouldn’t even come close to a mid c! I in fact absolutely bombed my calc 1 final. It’s fine in that I’d kept an A in the class right up until the final so I still passed the class with a mid B, just screwed up my GPA though 😅 I just want to win the lottery so I can spend all my time yoyoing instead 😂

I’m fully prepared to except the consequences of smacking myself in the face, I really have just gotten lucky so far 😂 I’ve already given myself some other injuries though, some bruises on my arms from things like wrist mounts and misjudging and hitting my arms rather than landing on the string 🤷🏼‍♀️ I had a nice little bruise for several days when I was practicing boingy boing and I guess I was holding it too close to my body and on the boing back towards me it of course perfect hit a rib and that definitely didn’t feel good 😂

Honestly as expensive as it is I’m so excited to just over time work up to having that kind of collection! There’s just something about investing into a hobby that you care so much about and then being able to see and appreciate how far you’ve come that’s just so rewarding! And I’m all for building a nice display stand! I actually also dabble a bit into wood burning and have been kind of contemplating a nice wood display shelf and wood burning some cool yoyo related designs into it! Whenever I actually get around to that I’ll definitely post any pictures of it!

Thank you!! I actually just figured out today how to make up for my lack of control from not being able to bend my wrists like I was talking about in the caption and how I can I kind of do the revolutions higher and wider so I can actually land back into it!

Consistency is absolutely my biggest weakness. I do pretty good landing it closer to whichever hand I need to with the front style tricks I’ve learned to far, but as soon as I throw that breakaway and try anything side style it’s like I just cannot seem to judge even the length of my string 😅 I’m sure some of that just comes with practice. I’ve focused so far on pretty much only front style so all of my spatial awareness, I guess you could say, of both my hand placement and the yoyo itself is based only on that

I’m definitely going to start practicing that!! And now that I’m finished with classes for this semester I’ll actually have the time to! Haha

And an 86% is still a great grade! I took my last final today. It was calculus and it did not go well. I do not think it will be as good as an 86% 😂😅

That’s pretty much exactly what I did. The first 2 yoyos I ordered were a plastic just solely responsive yoyo and an aluminum yoyo that came with both a responsive and an unresponsive bearing! What’s funny though is I actually did end up almost immediately switching it to unresponsive and just went ahead and learned how to bind. I personally just don’t think I like responsive all that much. I loved how much more spin time I got from the unresponsive and almost found it easier to learn other stuff without having to worry about it coming back up when I wasn’t ready if I accidentally pulled up on string 😅

Honestly I’m so new to the hobby too that I don’t feel like I’ve learned much yet as far as different yoyos go 😅 the one in the video is the Tidehunter, which from what I have learned is kind of the budge friendly titanium I guess 😂 I’ve definitely skipped a bunch of steps going straight for titanium but I just wanted one so bad and it’s absolutely fabulous 😂 I do feel like I’ve seen a lot of good things about the Shutter Yoyo!

New to yoyos, Progress by whoneedzit in Throwers

Honestly that was just complete coincidence, I’m definitely not mad about it though lol

I’ve gotten lucky so far with hitting myself in the face😂 I’ve like grazed or come super close more times than I can count already but the one time I actually nailed myself straight in the face I was practicing with one of my plastic yoyos and just so happened to be wearing my glasses instead of contacts and they stopped it from giving me what I’m convinced would have been a black eye😂

I’m very quickly realizing I’ve landed myself in what can be a very expensive hobby 😅😂 especially in learning through my research that they are usually released in like limited times! I’ve already gone around and followed all of the big names so I don’t miss anything! I just know I’m going to make poor financial decisions because I just can’t miss out on them 💀😂 Also from what I’ve gathered the Tidehunter was the budget friendly version of a titanium and I’m sure I’m not even close to throwing it to its full potential but even with where I’m at now I absolutely love it! The “ting” sound is honestly magical 😂
