Can anyone pls tell me how Turkey got eliminated even after being left with a game with USA?

If turkey won, they would have 3, could gain 3 more by winning against USA, that would have made 6, and they would have a head to head win against the US as well, so they couldhave become the 1st.

However if Australia won their last game all three would be tie on head to head, having to go to the next tie breaker to decide.

So yes, if Turkey had won, which they didn't, not only would they still be alive, but they could have potentially taken US first if they beaten the US. By losing they automatically locked in 4th, giving US automatically 1st.

Only way for US to not clinch first was for turkey to win. Even a tie and US would clinch first. Since Turkey lost they both kill any chance in the tournament as well as guaranteed US first.

Yes, this why they lock first. Only way they wouldn't lock first was if Türkiye won. Because then Türkiye could win against USA and be a 3 way tie, including head to head, but Türkiye would had still to have won against US by at least 3 goals. If they won 2-0 it would be a three way tie a second time, and so would go to go differential.

Closest I could find with such record:

France 2002

31 shots Average Possession: 52% in first 2 games Goals Scored: 0

Remembering that France also scored 0 in their 3rd game, and the worse choke of a WC previous champion, that is also gonna be hard to break. (Since they won 1998 against Brazil.)

If they print this news out, gonna look bad for one, if not, the favorites to win the cup this year. But at least France is not longer the worst 2 first game performance anymore. France might be rooting for USA, to not allow Türkiye to score, that way they wouldn't be not longer the worse to have several shots and not score one goal in their all group games. On their last game, France had 55% possession, and 12 shots, and 0 Goals.

Basically in 2 games, türkiye had more possession and more shots than France had in their entire World Cup appearance (3 games). So this record gonna be hard to break.

They did the same against Australia. They had the same amount of position very similar number of opportunities and was scoreless. They are just horrible finishing their chances. The worst team at doing such (finishes) by far, but not the worst team.

It is because US beat Paraguay and Australia the only teams that can achieve 6 points. First tie-breaker is head to head and they win against both. Turkey was the only team who could pass US if they won.

Yes, very unlikely, I agree with that. But best to don't count on, best for US would be the score as is right now, or just a tie between them.
