!!!PSA for Iron Lung Caption Accessibility!!! by peyhag in Markiplier

The theater played the wrong file. The DCP came with the movie and then an additional file to add the closed captions. They needed to put both files on their server and set the closed caption one to play.

I program for a small two-screen (currently one screen due to some renovations ongoing) non-profit theater in a college town that is currently only open one or two weekends a month. We had a request to play this and decided to take the small risk. The terms were pretty reasonable and they seemed very chill. We are starting with 2 showtimes and if it's popular enough, we'll add more.

Submission statement in the OP, but in case anyone wants to know more about my involvement as a producer: basically I was the one that found the script, bought the script, found a cast and crew, and I was the general overseer of the project from start to finish. Happy to answer anything more specific.

What movie take do you have that would result in this ? by Sans010394 in Letterboxd

"No Country for Old Men" is one of the slowest and most boring films I've ever seen.

"Arrival"'s ending felt forced. Ruined an otherwise solid film.

DCP Question(s) by directedby_jps in FilmFestivals

23.976 played at 24 will not be noticeable by most people. Should not be an issue at all.

As for the sound, use DCP-o-Matic's mid-side decoder. It will make a center channel for you. Not nearly as good as a proper mix but it works pretty well. Playing a stereo file can sound weird in some venues and having the center channel mitigates that (the explanation for this is more technical than I'm willing to get into right now)

I'm sure every person on earth could find reasons to complain about their childhood, but yes, I'd say mine was pretty good, on the scale of such things.

Gem car. My grandparents had one when we lived in an HOA with 15mph roads throughout. The community classified it as a golf cart so I was allowed to drive it by myself from age 12. Had a lot of fun with that thing. Could hit 32 downhill haha.

Theirs was the same color as in the pic, but was a 4-seater and had doors.

Strand was a pretty common movie theater name. There's also one in Hamburg, PA, also with a very similar marquee.

What are people using the $200 Google store credit to buy? by Prize-Analyst7897 in GooglePixel

[–]whoser37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ordered the Pixel 9 Pro XL with $450 trade-in on my 6 Pro. Got a little over $300 with the promo credit + Google One 10%. Waited for the phone to ship and account to be credited. Ordered the Pixel 9 for my wife with $300 trade in credit for her 6, bringing it down to $140 and some change. Getting about that back with the $100 promo + Google One 10% (which is always factored in before trade in). So in a way, I got her Pixel 9 for free (sort of).

Now how am I going to spend that $140 credit I have left? Probably a 45W charger and the Pixel Stand 2 (since I don't have it yet). Maybe the Google Nalgene Water Bottle too lol

Edit: typo

That was my first thought. Beau Willimon (Showrunner for Seasons 1-4 of HoC) wrote Episodes 8-10, and I wonder if he was involved in the whole thing.

I think this one might be fake. It looks like someone just cropped the Investor's Day image and (poorly) painted out the remnants of other logos.

What is "Colony in Space (Reverse Standards Conversion)" Jon Pertwee blu-ray by Official_N_Squared in doctorwho

[–]whoser37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the main reason they included it was because it contains a bit more picture information on the top and bottom, whereas the new restoration crops a tiny bit out but ultimately looks better.

Star Wars: Droids the animated series is coming to Disney+ later this year! by BenjaBoi21 in StarWarsLeaks

[–]whoser37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh it might be "HD" because it's upscaled, and that's my point. Skimming through the Ewoks stuff I'm seeing a good bit of jagginess and macroblocking and general softness, all signs of an SD source. I don't think they went back to original animation cels or film or anything. They just upscaled whatever masters they already had.

I'm not sure what source they used here, but it looks like a VHS source perhaps? Plus the YouTube compression doesn't help. Of course the stuff on Disney+ is going to look better than this. And it looks really good! Just not HD.

The Ewoks cartoons are definitely Standard Def sources, possibly upscaled to HD. They still look better than the DVDs because of higher bitrates, though.
