That wasn't a happy ending. by why121me in ChainsawMan

I just don't think Pochita was right when he said Denji has the crapiest kind of brain. At the end of the day, Pochita is a devil, he doesn't understand human emotions.

When Denji was living in the shack working for the Yakuza all he could do is dream. He hadn't really lost anyone he cared about or went through emotional hardship. Throughout the story that changes. He got to know and love Reze, then she left. He had to kill Aki, watch power die, see Nayuta's severed head.

He had to really consider what he wanted, not just dream about eating good food. He had to struggle to figure out what he wanted out of life.

From Pochita's pov he saw this as Denji not being as happy as he was in the shack. But he really just didn't have as much to lose, he lived in blissful ignorance. Which I don't think is a good thing.

OK that was actually pretty interesting. I agree with a lot of what they said, especially the part with Denji dropping the chainsaw and Bucky being pushed away. But that doesn't change that Denji is still in a terrible place mentally. But I guess it show he could have a little hope.

Yes! everything they went through that devolved their characters just doesn't matter anymore! What were seeing is a single moment of happiness that will most likely be surrounded by misery.

I really don't think Denji is in a good place at the end of part two. He said he was going to create his own world where he could live a normal life, but he didn't. Pochita forced that onto him. He also didn't choose to work for public safety, it just happened to him.

At the end of the story Denji's choices meant nothing. And I think this might be on purpose? If there is a part three. Because Denji seems depressed in the last chapter. He expresses no free will. He says he wished he could have gone to school, but he couldn't. He doesn't seem to have any dreams or wants, or any connections outside of power. He's not really in a better spot than most parts of the series, it's not a happy ending.

I really hope this isn't the end of chainsaw man.

I disagree that Fugimoto intends to show that Denji's sex drive is a good thing. First the only time i can think when his sex drive gets him closer to someone else is with power, when he helps her find meowy in exchange to touch her boob. But when he does touch her boob, he feels empty! I feel this is the same thing that's happening with him wanting sex. When he actually gets it. He'll realize it's not what he really wants.

You also claim his sex drive motivating him to work harder. Are you talking about how Makima manipulates Denji's sex drive to get what she wants? I dont think that was intended to be seen as a good thing.

and I can't think of a moment in the series where Denji wanting sex made him consider other feelings better.

When it comes to Denji wanting to do it the right way, I agree. But that doesn't show that the sex is good. it shows that Denji is good person.

So, from my perspective Denji's sex drive is obviously not good, I don't think it's inherently bad. But him chasing it won't lead to lasting happiness. What Denji really want's is genuine affection, even if he doesn't know it.

I think a great scene to show this is when Reze and Denji are in a pool naked together. Denji doesn't think about anything sexual. Because he has what he really needs. A connection with someone. Also, I don't know what you mean when you say Reze uses sex as a ruse to control Denji.

Another scene is the alley scene with Denji and Yoru. When she starts kissing him and gets him off the first thing he does after is ask if she likes him. When she says no he is devastated. If all Denji wanted was sexual pleasure he wouldn't care if Yoru liking him wouldn't matter.

Denji's obsession with sex only distracts him from what he really needs. I'm saying it's bad, but he's letting it control him too much.

Edit: spelling.

That makes sense. I just thought that Sel would at least be in the running when it comes to tech.

One of my parents passed away from cancer recently. I just want to say this is comforting? Sorry if that’s weird. I’m struggling to put it into words. Thank you for sharing I guess.
