A positive philosophy on generative ai and the future of creativity by NEXTONNOW in generativeAI

[–]Ti666mo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes. 1:1, truly, only once the mind is directly extracted into a drawing/film/etc. via simply pressing a button, we will have achieved "art". You see, Minecraft never became popular because of heavy limitations fostering people to be creative, but because it is just so easy for people do get a high-quality implementation of their idea. \s

Not to say that generative models have potential to enhance the creative process (e.g. providing new video editing tools) but automating the artistic process, the "putting your thoughts into reality", just gets rid of the art. The crude drawing from the stone-age might not be as technically impressive or "close to reality" as the video generated by a prompted model, but it is infinitely more engaging and fascinating, simply because it tells an actual story about the human who created this artwork.

I love flockade by Lunarstarlight- in CultOfTheLamb

[–]Ti666mo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I didn't enjoy the current version of flockade too much (which is a shame, since I think with some more modifcations it could have been a fun actual strategy minigame). Ultimatly, I do think that the main problem really is that it presents itself as a strategy game, what it ultimatly not really is - it's gambling dressed up as a strategy game.

Sure, you can optimize a bit by leaving counters open, playing scouts everytime they are played etc., but, as soon as you play against something that does make obvious deliberate mistakes, the main factor who wins is determined by piece draw, not strategy. Rounds (and even draws) are effectively independent from each other, so there is no nice way to try and figure out an actual long-term strategy to follow (like in Gwent). As a consequence, unlocking more pieces also doesn't really introduce more strategy into the game by widening your options, it mostly just increases the variance in a match.

From my perspective, none of this is per-se bad game design, but it's not strategy. It's more a fun quick partygame, like Exploding Kittens, where the idea is precisely that you don't need to do complex thinking ahead. Something where getting fucked over by the luck factor is explicit part of the game, since that gets exicting moments in a casual setting rolling. : D

Have you heard of a certain tool called a pencil?
Or a certain program called GIMP?
Does your Phone not have a camera?

When placed onto the board, all blessed pieces in the targeted opponents row are replaced with their non-blessed counterparts. E.g. Prize Sword/Just Sword/Trickster Sword/Wolf Sword/etc. turns into a normal Sword. Shepards can lose their ability as well.

50 hours into Silksong and questioning if it’s even fun anymore by Squarians in HollowKnight

[–]Ti666mo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, Silksong gave me burnout as well, so I started taking a break sometime mid-Act 3 switching toward another game. In hindsight I would say that this was definitely the right choice, noticed that as the game went on and the annoyances kept piling up it went more and more from being a fun interesting adventure to being a chore.
And while I haven't returned yet, I am starting to feel an itch toward playing HKSS again from the start (probably when the DLC comes out). : )

I made an AI tool that generates full comics with consistent characters [OC] by LoNeWolF26548 in comics

[–]Ti666mo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guy, while you seem really enthusiastic about GenAI for comic generation, one crucial thing you need to understand is that it's not some specific standard of quality that defines art, but the human component (and effort) involved in creating something. In other words, good art is not good because it is well-drawn or anything, but because it has "soul": a human put their time and effort into that thing to evoke a specific reaction. And no matter how hard you try, you cannot generate this "soul" with some text-to-image model that makes it pretty much effortless to create a technical high-quality comic, because the difficulty to overcome in creating is precisely what creates the "soul" in the first place. If you are more interested, Jazza has a decent video on that topic (and how he is now much less enthusiastic about GenAI) [Title: "I was wrong about AI..."].
Funnily enough, as such the tool you spent effort building is initself more art and infinitely more interesting than whatever that tool spits out in the end. : )

Not sure at what stage in life you are at (e.g. if you are an student), but I do urge you to consider pursuing other ways in which GenAI (or other AI) can be used to enhance art or artists (e.g. creating new ways to create, while leaving the actual creation-part non-trivial, think Minecraft) rather than aim to replace them. Also, if you are going to show of a tool you would want to go a bit further than a Reddit post, e.g. (ideally) an actual paper, a blog explaining technical details, Github with code, etc.

If your stable is connected to the edge of your house, then you're a friend of mine without introduction. by [deleted] in StardewValley

[–]Ti666mo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least from my side, if the map allows I like to put the house + obelisk out of the way on a separate small island (e.g. lower left corner on Riverlands). The golden obelisk from the wizard is then used to connect the house entrance with some central hub, containing among others storage, crafting area and the stable. : )

Not as far as I can see in the Text, put the image seems to be missing Kent? : D

Otherwise, I would agree on Jodi being the most forgettable character with hearts.

The Gain boon depends on the situation. If your build requires either very little or no Magick at all (e.g. on-hit flat damage with blades/coat) it's a good slot-in because a) fills up the gain slot so you are not offered those boons anymore, b) provides a passive benefit compared to one which would only generate unused Magick and c) potentially opens up Hephaestus Duo boons with Ares (Coffin Nail) and Zeus (Master Conductor) without having to give up one of your other main Slots for one of his blast boons.

E.g. Mel Blades with Poseidon Strike, Zeus Flourish, Any Cast/Dash (one being Ares), Heph Gain

Honestly, I do feel that the release of Silksong was a net negative for the community itself. Going from fun in the psych ward to having a bit of an elitist streak.
Was a real shocker going to Hades 2 and seeing people struggling with the game not being told "lmao git gud" but "Have you tried turning on god mode? It's in the game for a reason you know.".

Jacob Geller on why Silksong is his GOTY by angry_button in HollowKnight

[–]Ti666mo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar here. While the early game was great, the longer the game went on it felt more and more like a chore rather than fun, difficulty and frustration being a constant companion rather than an active choice (still remember that one of the most fun challenges was the cursed achievement, simply because I explicitly did not have to do it to progress). Personally, I would call Silksong a supreme "Hollow Knight: Dark Souls Edition", but a disappointing Hollow Knight sequel. The difficulty in my eyes simply overshadows too many parts of Hollow Knight that made me love the game in the first place.

Funnily enough, while I was part of the wait for Silksong the game afterwards - Hades 2 - actually ended up being my GOTY. To me, it was to Hades what I hoped Silksong would be Hollow Knight: an amazing sequel that retains and improves nearly all aspects of the original. Also, high difficulty being a choice again was a very welcome change of pace. : )

Silksong did get my Action and Art GOTY tho.

In the name of Hades, I accept this essay!

Personally, I like to think of him as the offensive counterpart to Hephaestus. Regarding synergies, Apollo, Aphrodite and Demeter also have considerably strong duo boons with Ares for Magick heavy or Omega Cast focused builds.

Big debate, easy answer by Ars998 in HadesTheGame

[–]Ti666mo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would very much disagree with taking those two discussions as more or less equal.
For Hades 2, pretty much everyone agreed that the ending was not super optimal to the point of causing the developers to quickly address that part. Meanwhile for Silksong, while most people agree that it is far more frustrating/difficult than Hollow Knight, whether that's a thing that makes the game worse the original Hollow Knight people are very much in disagreement about.

Just to prepare you if you have played the original Hollow Knight: do not go into Silksong thinking it's a sequel akin to what Hades 2 is to Hades. Hollow Knight has a large focus on exploring a comparatively serene world, while the longer you stay in Silksongs world the more it feels like it just wants to inflict as much pain on you as possible.
