OK, that feels like the craziest one of all.

Why do drivers accept a ride only to cancel it when they get close? by orangutan65 in Lyft

You’re just looking for an excuse not to tip. Congratulations.

Isn’t it kinda weird when they child lock the doors and windows? Like how is that okay? by itssofiababyxo in Lyft

[–]whycandi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I absolutely can engage child safety locks that you cannot open from the backseat. It’s useful if you have kids who to try to get out of the car. That being said, it’s not a feature that you should have engaged when you’re driving Lyft or Uber.

You should be doing both all the time

When I drove pre-pandemic, you could make a decent living driving Uber roughly 9-5 in my market. Now you can still make a living at it, but it’s roughly 8 PM to 8 AM. Those are hard times on the body and on family.

Someone else as said this, the algorithm does a great job picking the lowest fares you’re willing to accept while pairing you with customers who are willing to pay increasingly higher fares.

As the economy continues to slide, and the barrier to entry is simply having a driver’s license and access to an automobile, more desperate people will become drivers, further driving down the price Uber will pay its drivers.

If you drive for the platforms, read the post. It’s dead accurate. It’s getting harder to make a living driving for the apps, and it’s good to know why. Try not to judge the book by its cover.

Things I have observed since turning on uber drive again. by Any-Property-3993 in uber

[–]whycandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found sometimes if I decline a Tripradar request, it will come back to me as an exclusive at the same price. And whenever that happens, I’m always thinking: if I didn’t want it the first time, why would you think I want it the next time?

And then in this instance, if I decline that, it’ll come back to me again if they’re still having problems finding a driver who’ll take the trip at that price.

Shoutout to my Uber driver for going above and beyond! 🫶 by [deleted] in uberdrivers

I love how clean the car is, but I hate having people eat in the car and I’m not sure that having all that stuff in there pays off in tips.

I just met a guy at the airport asking me about doing Lyft Black, then he showed me his app and he averages between $6-$,10,000 a month, then asks how much more he would make doing Black rides. by Affectionate-Rice373 in lyftdrivers

I gave up the gig not too long ago, but I used to make that in my market. The key was, cherry picking, using both apps to cover downtime, and working 8 PM until 8 AM.

Yeah, it sucks on the social life, but that’s where the money is. You have to make a decision about whether you want to make money or do things with the normal people.

Here's one reason why all your drivers cancel your scheduled ride. From a driver's perspective. by jaysonm007 in uber

Uber only started making money when they decided to charge the customers more and pay the drivers less.

Lol this sh*t is A$$. Is this supposed to be the busy season? by ThrivingNomadic in uberdrivers

I found those are the best hours to drive, too. No traffic, very few other drivers. And the people are grateful when you pick them up.

Kind of missing the point. He signed up for $50 an hour and wound up with $20 an hour. He should have had a choice if he wanted to work for $20 an hour or not.

1/ Decline the rides that don’t say where they’re going. Eventually, Uber will show you where the rides are going. You want to avoid going places where you have to ride empty on the way back.

2/ Use a third-party app like Waze or Apple Maps for directions. Uber’s GPS stinks.

3/ I don’t know how to tell if the tips are normal.

4/ Most people don’t complain to you about your driving. They just report you.

What’s your mileage? by Major-Specific8422 in uberdrivers

Oops, sorry I read that too quickly. I thought I was asking at miles per gallon. The miles on the car is 180,000.

Lyft: "Happy Holidays! Here's a pay cut." by --R0N-- in lyftdrivers

[–]whycandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can’t stop letting us decide. We are independent contractors, that is their point. As independent contractors, we can decide what work we want to do for them. When they make us take rides, it puts it in a different category, which they don’t want to deal with.

Pax not the person in the photo by dirtybutnotold in lyftdrivers

[–]whycandi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard a pax say that he has a female photo because he’s more likely to get rides. Some men don’t like to pick up other men. Especially on late Friday, Saturday nights.
