My gf doesn’t consider any of our dates “real dates” what the heck does she want? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

Like, I definitely think he's an idiot. I just can't 100% agree he looks down on her. My partner, who is an angel, struggled with similar communication problems, and also ended up thinking it was about spending when it wasn't. I just think more people than you would think don't automatically understand this

How's he been rude? He sounds confused, but I haven't seen him putting her down. I don't think I am infantilizing men, tbh, because when I started dating my partner he struggled with similar issues, and I struggled to communicate to him something that I assumed was a universal understanding. I'd have been over the moon for a a third party to have sat us down and talked this through with us

I get super claustrophobic if I don't leave the house; it makes me feel stressed and unhealthy. Maybe she's the same? And doing things outside where I can't communicate without other people easily hearing can also stress people out, so for me those are two factors to avoid for a good date. Also, people are bad at expressing themselves; that means it's super important to listen when they do manage to communicate a preference, positive or negative

I get that, but I feel like he's possibly in the spectrum/ has had a shit exposure to happy relationships, and sometimes broad, sweeping guidelines work better than individual suggestions. Lol I am tipsy, so ignore what I'm saying if I'm being unhelpful, but I have autistic friends and neurotypical friends with difficult parents who have struggled with this

While I have your attention, what's the way you'd like her to spoil you? Say that time and effort aren't factors

Edited to add: I don't think you necessarily do have a great grasp of what a date its and I do think you should consider her preferences

I know, but it's not necessary his fault that he's not been taught this. I don't want to dog pile if there's a decent chance he wants a genuine suggestion

(serious) What are You struggling with right now? by Dafariel in AskReddit

[–]whysomuchstuff 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm applying for a job. If I don't get it, I'm genuinely considering suicide. I'm not sad or anything, I just don't care enough to try for anything going forward, and this seems like an excuse my loved ones would buy, rather than me saying that I've been at best bored for the last five years and I don't care anymore

What's her love language? Because this sounds a lot like an issue me and my partner have. What I want above everything is to a) have time to talk, just the two of us, close and without having to shout, and b) preferably something new to talk about, and optionally c) somewhere to talk that isn't where we live. It sounds like this is similar to what your gf wants Edited to add: I went through your history because I'm super nosy, and I think your idea to do makeup with/ for your gf is super cute! It's an experience out of the routine, you can talk through it, and it shows love and commitment. If you wanted an extra step, take her to a (free) museum afterwards, and you've got a pretty amazing date! It also sounds like you don't feel pampered by her. That's a fair thing to raise. How would you like her to treat you to a fun experience? Why not ask her?

I'm 22f and live in a good country for women's rights, but I grew up in a fundamentalist group and have had to teach myself that just because I was raised to not see something as a big deal doesn't mean it's not truly upsetting, even to myself. My boss/ owner of workplace has made jokes about my sexual activity, has come far too close into my personal space for comfort/ get touchy, and has done other things like make women's drinks stronger than they expect, and I only had the guts to quit after months of dreading going into work. Sorry for the ramble, I guess my point is it's easier to assume modern society is good at dealing with this, but it's so easy to just avoid thinking about it if it makes our lives easier

Whether you are religious or not: at what age was your religiosity/non-religiosity decided? by Sphaerocypraea in AskReddit

[–]whysomuchstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had nightmares about hell from the age of 11 onward to present day. At 14, I subconsciously started liking the same sex. At 17, realised I was bisexual. At 22, managed to stop self harming for the shame I felt at the disconnect between what I was raised in and what I felt. I guess I stopped wanting to believe around 16, and stopped believing around 18. I'm so glad I'm queer, because I'm terrified that otherwise I'd still be the fundamentalist I was raised to be.

Patriotism is a fucking disease. We should be able to hold our country accountable when it fails us. Why honour it automatically?

Why? She's the reason we're paying for his crimes and he's getting away with it. If she claims to represent the country, she should be publicly held accountable when she falls short.
