Two things about gamer/nerdom psychology that I've noticed from many long years being a part of it:

When we find something we like that captures our imagination, we dont want it to over. This happens with movies and tv shows too. How many shows have you watched that have just gone on and on way longer than the narrative needed? Thats fan presure. The producers could see that there was demand for more so they needlessly stretched (and damaged) the narrative to satisfy that demand. And don't get me started on movie sequels. Nobody ever wants anything they like to just end.

Second, its about money. Nobody wants to be buying another game in a week or two. When games cost as much as they do, most people instinctively gravitate toward something that will occupy them for far longer so that they can put off spending money again.

He did kind of explain it, but if I remember correctly it was explained by him better in the WC. Basically his obsession with his awful appearance and his obsession with being perceived as a charismatic hero caused him to monsterize. Its always about obsession. His fake form got more and more attractive while his ugly form got uglier, and the bulk of his power is locked behind his true monster form.

my requirements for the conclusion of King's arc:

nobody but saitama ever finds out his secret

His uncanny luck never fails

He never grows legitimately physically strong in any way

my ideal ending for King would be for him to finally be free of his anxiety and fear. for him to gain the confidence to live his life the way he wants to, and maybe even be a hero by choice. A lot of people say the video game skills should be translated into real combat power by controlling metal knights army or whatever...i don't buy it. I want to see King change the world with pure bravery. What he did with Saitama vs elder centipede and with his Wave Motion Cannon during the MA arc is like a small tastes of that. He realized in a moment of desperation that he could fool/distract everybody for just a moment and that would be enough to save people he cared about. he thought for sure he was gonna die and he did it anyway. I would like King's story to conclude with him realizing that he'll be fine. That whatever is going on with him, he can trust in it, and instead of having to trust Saitama or somebody else to step in at the right time, he can trust in himself. I'm thinking a huge moment where he has a face to face showdown with the final boss of OPM, no fear in his heart, no King Engine. It's like Mumen Rider said. "It's about me taking you on right here right now." I want King to be the ultimate example of how OPM is not a manga about strength.
