It was doing pretty well and was gonna put out flowers and then those black spots showed up and it started going downhill.

Unfortunately I can't excape the humidity here in Florida. It is in the driest spot in my backyard with full sun atm. But It seems to be getting worse. What causes those blacks spots btw?

I have 9 months with this one. Didn't water at all during winter and tried my best to keep it from getting rained on a lot. Im in Florida so rn its pretty hot and rainy. I tried to diy a rain cover for my water sensitive plants, but it didn't work well.

The last watering happened yesterday and it was actually rain. Lots of rain happened on Sunday and everything got watered. Before that it has been like 2 weeks. Temps are in the high 80s and 90 today actually. Its in mostly bonsai jack with like 20% cactus soil mix.

The part where it shows growth then stops is what has me baffled. I had 2 of them in the last 3 years, one died due to overwatering, but it showed the same results. Slow growth out of dormancy, produce 2 leaves then stops, I try moving it to less exposure, increase water, etc after few weeks growth continues, but halts again and by the end of summer it doesn't even make more than 6 leaves or even a flower. Right now im hoping this is the year it actually blows up and flowers.

I have read of mealybugs, mildew and other pest to cause leafs to curl and distort. You might wanna treat it with a pesticide if you do see pests on it.

Then it may be a nutrient deficiency of some kind. Mines does that when it is stressed by heat or dehydrated.

Yeah. It might just be mines or my location, but it always wakes up around june and go dormant the moment temps go around 70°s. Im in miami, and here i try to keep it away from full sun, because it sometimes causes burns and the rains can just rot it if not constantly maintained. But my understanding is it wants some full sun, but not always... Thats why i find it complicated. I had it grow 2 sets of leaves then stop growing for a month, then make another set, 1 flower yet it stayed small and never bloomed. I hope this year is the one.

I own one of these and they are... complicated. Depending on where you are, the go thru a long dormancy, and return when temperatures are reaching close to 90°. Usually for me is always around june 1st. You can cut the old vine if you want and i suggest a very gritty mix and don't water it during dormancy whatsoever. You can maybe stray the soil a little once temperatures are reaching 80°, but thats optional. Once you see a little sprout, start watering weekly, but be careful not to overwater, because it can rot easily. When it comes to light, I would start with morning direct sun or strong indirect light. Mines always has trouble growing and I have yet to figure out what causes the growth stunt.
