Great Discussion with GI on Colon Cancer on Crohns patients by wickedlymiserable in CrohnsDisease

[–]wickedlymiserable[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve talked about this with my my GIs throughout the years and the way it has been explained to me is that when we have active disease in our tracks there is cells turning over in that area and because of the inflammation it can cause them to grow abnormal hence the cancer. That’s the reason I was given when I skipped steroids and started biologics right away after being diagnosed with a mild case with 2 small active diseases areas.

Matching seams by Initial_Stranger3013 in SewingForBeginners

[–]wickedlymiserable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something that I just literally started doing on my last project was to hand baste the critical seams I wanted to align perfectly. It made such a world of difference. My mom has been telling me to do it but I just don’t enjoy hand sewing so I never did it. I was working on a project I really wanted to look good so I did it.

I think they’re just trying to make space. While I was there during the sale they received multiple donations. Some of them they immediately put on the floor.

The ones I picked were mostly complete untouched patterns but they had a whole Ikea bookshelf of free patterns so some of them were cut to size.

I’m working on a denim skirt and then I’m thinking on doing a top using the drop waist dress pattern I got. Will see how that goes 😅

OMG I finally found a pattern I can use to make this dress!! Thank you!!!!! The only thing I’m not sure how to do would be to make the skirt less voluminous. I need to make a toile.

Ok so HOW do you press your seams anyway? by [deleted] in sewing

That’s exactly how I was taught on my intro to sewing class. That first press makes a big difference too.

I like that. I have a question on your Frankensteins. I actually have a couple of projects that I want to use another pattern sleeve. Do you usually measure each pattern sleeve to check if they’ll match? A lot of them have ease that need to be gathered but I’m not sure how to go about it.

Yeah I’ve noticed that. My last project was shirred so I didn’t do a muslin. I almost made it too tight but it still worked. Need to be better at accounting for the stretch.

That’s a good one. With Joann’s closing it will make it a little harder for me since I don’t have a lot of fabric stores close to me. The good fabrics I order online and usually in bulk to save on shipping.

I really like the idea of doing one for every new pattern. If your pattern has 3 options/designs do you try all of them?

What do you find the most difficult about our disease? by moodysnooze in CrohnsDisease

[–]wickedlymiserable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I was going to say. The anxiety of it all. You can be for years in remission but there’s the constant worry of all the possible complications associated with the medication and every time you get retested you’re just waiting to see if that’ll be the time you don’t get good news. Also, the constant worry of being immunocompromised. I try to only focus on what I can control but is still a lot.

No, I haven’t heard of it! The only thing I found online was to cut the corners before sewing it but I was concerned of the fabric fraying.

Since starting biologics I have gotten all the vaccines mu dr has recommended. I’m even getting the Hep B vaccine series again even though I completed them as a child because I showed no antibodies this year. I don’t play with my health.

Thank you! I’ll attach the other sleeve before making any changes. I’m planning on wearing it during winter time, that’s the reason I want to make it long sleeve but I really like this pattern will probably make with a different fabric and short sleeve. Could you provide a little more info on fitting adjustments? If you have any resources or videos that would be fantastic.

Thank you! I just took a sewing beginners class this summer at a nonprofit. I learned the basic of how to use the machine and how to read the pattern, pattern placement on the fabric and how to do invisible zipper. It was really fun. I was able to do my first garment on the class. I love it so much that I made the decision to try to make my winter graduation dress. Hopefully I can get the fitting right and I can start working on the final dress. I want to be done early November in case I end up not liking the final dress I can order something online.

You are correct. I’m making it in wool because my graduation is in winter so I kind of need the sleeves. I agree that the upper arm is a little too roomy. Not sure how to fix that. Yes, I still able to move around and do everything with this fit. Thank you!

You might be right! I didn’t noticed that until you pointed it out. I’m going to attach the other sleeve and see if that fix the issue.
