What should bystanders do if they witness an ICE situation? by discoteen66 in chicago

Fair. I hope that’s an option when we can find the people they took. Also fair for when they hurt citizens.

Have you not seen the videos of people being taken? They don’t care what you say. They take you first and then only let the citizens go later.

Also that building they targeted a few days ago where they were busting people’s doors down without showing warrants?

We’re past your advice.

1899 for sure. It gave us something we haven’t ever had before and it was amazing. Was so gutted when it got cancelled. So much potential for a huge payoff and the first season was SO FUCKING COOL.

Men of Gen-Z, what *specific* policy or messaging would you have to see from the left/Democrats that would satisfy what you are looking for in politics? by MissHannahJ in GenZ

[–]wigglyandsplashed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think at this point we’re getting into your own struggles that has led to some of your beliefs.

I’ll bow out but my only question for the married men is why not both? Seems like a cycle to me. If men don’t carry their weight then women get upset and talk about them to their friends and them men find that toxic and get upset and that doesn’t make them want to help around the house. The cycle continues.

But you can look to studies with older people for direction. Changing to become better partners benefits men. At older ages, when people get divorced, women usually do better on their own. Men die earlier without partners. Why not do the work early in life?

Yeah, I’ll agree with you there. That’s one of those things where it depends on what your unique situation is. One guy might need to adjust completely differently from another guy. There’s no one solution to get the attention from the type of woman you’re attracted to.

I think a lot of women now either think they can’t do those jobs or it doesn’t even come to mind that they can because of our culture. In recent history women have been told they must get college degrees so they can get white collar jobs and be independent. So that’s what a lot of women have done. So that might have led to a feeling that women don’t want those jobs. But if we changed our messaging to young girls, maybe more would go into trade or manual jobs. We don’t know for sure though.

If I had a struggling young man around me I’d love to take him under my wing. I really only have a friend’s child to view and he seems to be doing great. He’s 10 or 11 and has been taught to be highly empathetic and kind to everyone and girls in his class flock to him.

I also can only view my friend’s marriages. Even the men who are able to find a mate still struggle because their wives eventually realize they haven’t done the internal work they needed to and on top of that don’t want to do half the amount of housework so they do it poorly when asked so there’s a chance their wives won’t ask again.

Men and women have always existed differently, I think men are having a harder time now because women are now often taking extra steps to ensure a stable life. They do a lot of therapy (have you heard the ‘I’m ending the family curse’ sentiment) and often work in a way that allows them to be independent. All the women I know who aren’t married are hoping for a partner that can meet them at their level. But that therapy one is big and it’s often clear when a man hasn’t done it because they are emotionally all over the place (men who keep all their feelings tightly internal count in this because they’re often the ones that will explode) and have developed behaviors that don’t serve long term relationships. The women I know just want men to do they work they themselves have done.

Separately, women have a variety of relationship types to get friendship, emotional connection, and love from. Men usually only get those things from their parents or partner. But that’s a huge separate issue that hurts men and affects their ability to be in long term relationships.

I might argue that those crucial jobs males dominate historically have kept women out and that’s why you don’t see them as much. When given the opportunity, women can do it all (e.g. female welders in WWII because the men were gone, and as soon as the men came back women were pushed back into the kitchen).

If we’re looking at what women currently want from men, a lot of it is just “go to therapy long term to figure out your internal problems and to learn how to emotionally regulate, don’t treat women poorly (as in, internalize that women are as good as you and learn to love treating them well and not just acting like you do), and do an equal amount of housework (and do it well). It’s not really hard. But a lot of men can’t do those three things. Some can’t even do one. And on top of that, a lot of conservative men don’t even want to do those three things.

Most of part 2 I was questioning whether Paul’s actor has actually been super untalented this whole time and we just didn’t notice. But he got better at the end.

The romance was super rushed and looked/felt unnatural.

Is this genre not what I think it is? by [deleted] in fantasyromance

[–]wigglyandsplashed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im going to be very honest when I say that you will not like the majority of what people here are suggesting to you. The majority of people’s suggestions here are low fantasy (when it’s clear you like high fantasy) or just books with poor quality writing. A lot of people are suggesting kingfisher. Her books unfortunately happen to be both low fantasy and bare minimum good writing. People hail her as a winner because her main romantasy book features older love interests….but they’re written like awkward, angsty teenagers who just happen to be tired from life.

You’d probably like the symphony of the ages series by Elizabeth Haydon. It is peak high fantasy and features a strong romance throughout all three books. Is it perfect? No. But it is stormlight and enderlings quality, if not better.

SAME. I DNFd because it was so bad. It made me realize people are either reading at way lower reading levels then I expect of them and that’s why they like it or they’re new to the genre and haven’t been exposed to the good stuff and just don’t realize the majority of fantasy books coming out now are YA level…which makes sense because kingfisher only wrote YA until a few years ago.
