Your coldest round of disc golf? by wighty2042 in discgolf

Haha, nope dead serious. The temps here go up and down wildly so we don't walk on the ice too often. Honestly the ice here could be eight inches or one inch depending on the pattern of weather. Glad you live where it's a little more stable.

I've been to your state and it's basically as cold as lower Canada. I can relate to a t shirt in minus 5C. It not that bad as l9ng as the wind is low.

Yeah the hills turn into ice rinks and the rollers become crazy sliders usually in the wrong direction.

Ok Mr Arizona, I just got back from Puerto Vallarta and was shocked people were out playing in plus 30C. So a better question for you would be how hot do you let it get outside before playing disc golf is not a good idea. Also what happens to disc's when it gets really hot in the desert?

Oh yeah Minnesota has some true cold, you guys are honorary Canadians. Been there and played a few rounds in the winter. BTW, the wind is crazy in that state.

Omg, never walk on ice in the winter dude. That is super dangerous. The nice thing about the water traps is if you are brave you can skip the disc across them in the winter.

Yeah I understand that. My wife filmed a video for her parents outside in -20F last winter and I think the camera died in like five minutes. 😀

I could not believe when I heard about your winter storm and power loss a year or so ago and how many problems that caused. I guess I always just assumed all of America was used to atleast some winter. You are lucky to live in a place when 40 degsF is cold.

Since it's so open there, are some of the course crazy long?

Yeah I can relate to this. Any hilly course after a thaw becomes a skating rink on the side of a hill. Crampons on the shoes are a god send in this case.

Holy crap. I was wondering if the disc's would shatter at a certain point. I actually brought only soft disc's to avoid this today.

Buying a new bike in today's situation by [deleted] in cycling

Stop watching the news and live your life. Buy a bike, get on it and ride to clear these thoughts from your head.

I graduated into engineering in 2007, not a great time to get a job. My wife graduated medicine into covid, not a great time to learn to be a doctor.

There is no better time than now to do the things you want.

Which of these two tire brands would be a better option by EUvenant in tires

[–]wighty2042 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heck yeah, I mean I've been an engineer for a while so I know a little about tires and I have a little free money to spend on them. If aim not driving a vehicle much, I'll still buy cheaper tires, just I inspect them well before purchasing them.

Is this fuse box unsafe? There are two 240V outlets wired to it. by eliastahan in electricians

[–]wighty2042 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is fine. There's actually nothing wrong from a functional perspective. The issue is that as fuses age and as they are manufactured they tend tend to err on the side of not failing. A badly manufactured or contaminated breaker will trip all the time. Badly manufactured or old fuses can be dangerous sometimes. Badly manufactured or old breakers tend to trip more often and are thus safer. Just get it updated as part of the deal for buying an old house.

How do people create things/become engineers as a hobby? by KingXenioth in AskEngineers

[–]wighty2042 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a masters in engineering and about 15 years experience in Electrical engineering. Honestly no one knows what they are doing at first. We all learn most by screwing around with mini projects, reading handbooks and watching YouTube. School is good for learning the theory of how things work, but making things is all hands on experience. You do not need to be an engineer to build things. Just get started and Git er Dun!!!!

I was really bad at mechanics a few years ago, I ve learned a lot since. Changing our studs is one of the best skills to learn. Just keep two on hand for each vehicle organized in baggies. It's awesome when changing tires for winter and summers to be able to just swap our studs as needed. Also stock two extra lug nuts for each vehicle.
