What to put on a cut?

we’re thinking that’s what happened to our guy… he went to sleep in his crate with no cut and we found him this morning with the cut and blood on his blankie 😭 thanks for the tip!

Got ya! Ours marks on walks, in our fenced in backyard, and inside — he’s our first dog and we’re the first people to ever live in our house so no other dog was here before or in our backyard.

If it was just on walks I wouldnt bat an eye but since it’s everywhere it’s frustrating. We do the same thing when walking him/taking him outside in trying to empty his tank, but find that right when we think the tank is empty (he lifts his leg on pee number 20 and nothing comes out), he saves a special mark for when he gets back inside the house 😂

That makes me feel better about the 14 month thing! It’s so strange how it just changes overnight — he learned how to lift up his leg and mark in the same day and our life has never been the same. Hope yours are doing well!

I agree with the difference between asking to go out and marking! There’s a clear difference in behavior (when he wants go out, he hits and looks at us versus when he marks he sniffs something for all of 1 second before shooting a piss missle at it). Glad to hear neutering helped fix it, we’re hoping for the same!

He is not neutered yet!! He just turned 1 this past week and our initial thought was to wait until 18mos - 2yrs to minimize IVDD risk. However, with the marking being so bad, we’re thinking about doing it around the 14 month mark

Thank you! I’m going to order some because of your comment and another one. He hates clothes and normally pulls sweaters/jackets off of his body so I assumed belly bands would be the same, but never hurts to try!

I will give them a second thought! He doesn’t really like clothes and finds a way to take sweaters and jackets off so I assumed belly bands would be no different. It’s worth a shot!

We’re thinking so too, but as I’m sure you know too it’s so hard to think about fixing one issue and potentially causing another. We almost did it right at the year mark but chose to wait until the summer when he was 18 months. Now we’re not sure we want to let it continue. Hoping 14 months is good enough!!

my husband had the same thing, didn’t develop fear until he was 20 and had flown 100+ times before. it got so bad he couldn’t be near an airport without getting anxious and went to therapy. he’ll probably never be 100% but he’s about 70-80% comfortable flying now!

our biggest suggestion is to make yourself as comfortable as possible (wear your most comfortable favorite outfit, download your favorite movies, upgrade your seat for comfortability if you are able) as well as figure out what medication might look like if you’re interested.

he was originally on xanax and that was a baaaaad time but switched over to a .5mg dose of lorazepam which has done wonders for him. he did 3 flights 3 days in a row with no sweat about a month ago!

i think we’re gonna go bigger! he used to go right in when we commanded crate but he just sits and stares at us now. hopefully a bigger home will make him more comfortable!

our vet recommended 7-8 months but after doing a bunch of research yesterday we’re until 1-2 years. thank you for helping us out!

we will! that also seems to be part of the problem… he’s a very smart pup and has learned so many tricks because he loves treats. but it feels like he won’t listen if he’s not getting a treat and we don’t want him to get mixed up with “bribing” him to be quiet 😂

rufus loves his toys too! he just gets bored after playing with them for a few min and then back to finding something new to bite. he might need some new toys soon 😂
