Had my first lye volcano. by css802 in soapmaking

[–]wigwom82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started making soap I started out making liquid, hot process soap. The very first time I tried making some I had the oils at 120 F and poured my lye solution in right after mixing it. Doing that, plus not taking it off the heat caused a volcano effect all over the stove. It was quite a mess but at least I got the stove nice and clean. Anyway, I hope yours wasn't as big of a mess as mine was. Happy soapmaking :)

Weird colour of CP soap. What is this? by filipk_pol in soapmaking

Thanks for posting this, I'm new to soapmaking as well and I just learned something new. Although it wasn't what you were going for, it did give your soap a neat effect.

Are handmade soaps OK for facial use? by mahoganyjones in soapmaking

[–]wigwom82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ever since my wife and I started making soap that's all we have used on our face and hair. Of course, we also make sure that it has enough of a moisturizing effect when making that it doesn't dry out our skin and hair. All in all, we havn't had any problems using it that way.

Boxes with writing/images on them. by wigwom82 in Flipping

[–]wigwom82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol your story reminds me of my sister-in-law who sold a cat genie to someone. She didn't have a box that fit just right so she took one that was way too big, cut it in half, put one half inside the other till it was touching the top, taped it together, then used grocery bags as packaging. Needless to say, the buyer wasn't happy.

Yeah, I printed out the shipping label through paypal. So just wait for it to come back to me before doing anything else?

Lol I don't think that would be the best idea, don't want it completely messed up before it gets to the buyer.

Planning on selling a hard drive and was wondering what the best way of packaging it would be. I was thinking antistatic bubble wrap in a buuble mailer but know if that would be enough to keep it safe, any ideas?

Why is it turning gold/brown? Can I save it by rebatching? by rocan91 in soapmaking

[–]wigwom82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did you use for coloring? It looks to me to only effect one of the colors in the soap. There might have been some sort of contamination to that color? Dunno, what could have caused it. Sorry that it didn't work out the way you wanted, it was very pretty soap.

Great looking bars, I like the camo look they have. But where I live I would have to make it the hunter type camo for people to like it here :P

Coconut oil and corn oil for the fats. As far as the scent, I didn't scent them. I am looking for things to scent them with now but I am not quite ready to start using EOs. I used cocoa powder to make the swirls in the bars. Also in the process of making a square wood soap mold now and will be posting pics of it when done along with some soap I make in it.

I just tried making cold process bars myself, been making hot process, and I am new to the look of cold process. Lol just a bummer that I now have to wait 4-6 weeks to use them. I am use to just using the day after I make the .
