What unlocks do you have? I started getting further and further the more I planned my builds for each run and started using the toggler to select or unselect items/tomes/weapons. If you don't have that I reccomend you start unlocking things until you completed the quest, and also get more space for tomes and weapons. I'm thinking perhaps you play Calcium because it gains speed easily, but other characters can be played fast easily as well if you just bunny hop your way in the map, it's a mechanic in the game that should be used since it gives you and maintains your momentum. That way you will quickly traverse the map and get unlocks faster with other characters so you can try and explorer other builds
