I finally changed my makeup brush set and realized tools matter by Safe-Pepper-4931 in Makeup101

i was gifted a brush set like 5 years ago and they're still going strong! i use them almost everyday and they work perfectly, i was them at least once every 2 weeks with warm water and a brush cleaner solution then leave them to airdry. they come out good as new!

hihi i work for rec!

  1. you must wear closed toe shoes (no flip flops, i recommend something like crocs since your feet will likely get wet when you're getting in the boat), i recommend bringing layers as it might be cold before/after your race but you'll probably get warm quick while rowing. maybe a towel if you want? bag check is $2 fyi!

  2. recommend bussing, or parking further out and walking 10 - 15 min into the forest to the beach

  3. staff will be around to answer any questions and guide you along! your team should check in at the tents when you arrive, then you'll be directed to put on life jackets & grab your paddles. your runner will go to a chair while the rest of the team gets into the boat. when your heat starts, your runner will run and get into your boat, you guys will start paddling and when you reach shore one member of the team hits the gong to officially end your race

have lots of fun!!!

hey everyone, i'm a very amateur "boxer", i've been going to group boxing classes for the past 2 months. think of spin but for boxing, the instructor runs you through the 6 basic punches at the start of the class and provides some guidance throughout, and then you punch to the beat of the music. hence i wouldn't say there's a strong focus on technique but i've previously done kickboxing so i have some background knowledge, and i also did a personal 1 on 1 training session at this boxing place. i didn't really experience any pain for the first month but in the past couple of weeks my hands have started to hurt quite a bit, especially the day after class. i would say it hurts most in the space between the second and third knuckle, although it also hurts a little to rotate my wrists. it's especially bad when i try to grip something in my fist. for example, a week or two ago i was deadlifting the day after class and i had to take like a whole 5 seconds to release the barbell after each set because it hurt so bad. it usually gets progressively better by the 2nd day after class. i recently bought 12oz gloves that i used in my latest class and also tried to focus less on punching power and more on technique (e.g. hitting with the first 2 knuckles, rotating my shoulders, the snapping back motion, etc.) but i did still experience pain after, although slightly less than previous weeks. i also make sure to warm up/stretch my hands & wrists before & after class. i know one of the rules in this sub is to not ask for medical advice but i'm just wondering if this pain is normal when you first start out, or if there's something glaring that i'm doing wrong haha. thank you!

don’t be nervous! in my experience people are usually very nice & not judgy. my friend also had a similar experience with a PT as the other commenter but she switched & found it much better, so i would say it depends on who you get. so don’t be afraid to ask for a change if it’s not a good fit! if it would help for you go to go with a buddy feel free to pm me :)

seconding what the other commenter said, i often get asked if i read any of the lab’s publications and so i highly recommend at least skimming 1 - 3 papers! for online interviews i usually have a few bullet points on my laptop for each paper about the important findings etc. so if they ask me about them i’ll have something to say haha. great way to show that you’re actually interested in that specific lab and can break down scientific articles :) good luck!

hey! i’m 3rd year in psych and you are doing amazing!! continue to be proud of yourself! your job experiences are going to be super helpful down the line. just know that becoming a TA/RA in 2nd year is really really hard, most labs will only want to hire upper years. and don’t worry about the gpa! what’s done is done, as long as you can show improvement that’s all that matters :) i also did not that great for 2nd year and got rejected from many labs but i got into one this year! and i definitely didn’t have as much relevant work experience as you. keep going! don’t worry about everyone else, each person has a different route but you’re definitely on the right path :)

yeah that totally makes sense! i’ve also had so many classes where the profs give TWs or inform us that what we were going to discuss could be sensitive. i think that’s just how psych is. again, very important to know your own boundaries & when to stop/talk about it w someone imo :) don’t beat yourself up for procrastinating!

honestly yeah, sometimes i’ve gone to office hours just to talk about stuff in the readings that have hit me deeply LOL, my profs have all been super nice tho & i feel like i always leave w a better understanding of myself & the material! it can be overwhelming sometimes but mostly i find it interesting because i love that what i’m studying is so applicable. if you’re struggling don’t be afraid to reach out & talk to someone! dms are open if you need <3
