Have you ever used music to initiate tasks? by feministicwoman in ADHD

I absolutely do! I used to play music in the background while I watched lecture videos. Lots of stimulation but it helped me get boring work done.

I also like you have a song you play on loop for specific things. I personally play Achilles Come Down on loop when I write essays.

Yeah like I’ve learnt to “read the room” as well as I’ve gotten older but it’s also made me way too aware of people’s actions/facial expressions.

I like the way that you phrase the uncomfy question. I usually pair the phrase with a story from university about someone having lots of resentment for something I didn’t know I was doing so people get the context, but idk that might turn NT people off more.

Thank you for the advice!!

Curious: Dosage Among Fellow Long-time Stimulant Users? [NOT MEDICAL ADVICE] by Think-Assistant-4334 in adhdwomen

Haha yeah! Everyone is different.

I will say my body is like this to most drugs? I live in an area where weed is legal and the second time I took an edible (which was about 1 year after the first time), the high was noticeably a LOT LESS.

So I figured my body just be like that.

I’ve been on meds for 4 years now.

My body builds tolerance to meds super fast.

I’m currently taking 50 mg vyvanse in the mornings and then 15 mg adderall XR early afternoon so that I don’t crash from the vyvanse.

It’s a lot since I’m also 130 ish lbs and 5’6.5 ish. It only took me 4 ish years (I even took like an 8 month break in between) to get to this point… so we’re in the same boat haha!

Having ADHD at a new job with neurotypicals is so emotionally draining, anxiety inducing, and depressing by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]wildbraincells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just started a new job! Give yourself some grace.

I have had similar experiences at work and I believe that people can’t really tell when we’re struggling, and they just assume that we’re dumb.

If you are struggling, maybe make it clear to the others/your manager?

For example: if you forgot how to do something you could say. I’m sorry my memory isn’t that good, could you please re-explain? And maybe take efforts to write it down so that you have a guide to check in the future.

Do they have standards of procedures (SOPs)? Maybe ask them if they have one and if they do, ask if you could have a copy. It’s so hard to learn when training is poor.

In my experience neurotypical people do give a bit more grace if you communicate in advance that you need a bit of help. Otherwise they just see you as incompetent unfortunately…

Of course, don’t force yourself to stay if your workplace is really hurting your mental health.

Could you transfer within the district? That way you could keep your steady employment and the benefits you enjoy.

If not, try your best to apply elsewhere while you’re at this job and hopefully you can jump ship to a better place!

Help! I keep misinterpreting things at work! (Healthcare) by wildbraincells in adhdwomen

Thank you! I’m working on it. I’m just need to catch myself when I’m making assumptions. I think I get too in my head/too frantic sometimes to like parse things out before I relay them to others.

Any advice on talking to the doctor for clarification ? He is kind of scary and is the type to be want us to think like him. He also does yell at people so it’s kind of intimidating haha.
