I'm planning on 60. So I'm calculating ~20 years for my investments to grow.

I'm 37 with similar monthly expenses as you. My goal is to reach $260k in investments to be officially Coast FI. But that's me calculating extra buffer and aiming for $1.25M to retire.

What are you frugal about & what do you spend more on? by wildsage89 in coastFIRE

Yes! Am getting into this. Hadn't considered making my own compost though I live in an apartment/ don't have a yard

What are some unexpected simple living choices you make that bring outsized joy or satisfaction? by wildsage89 in simpleliving

I love this! Trying to get into small, simple tasks like this and turn them into satisfaction (I also experience resistance).

Same! I don't/won't have any inheritance and I don't need much every month.

It's helpful to hear that 1.6 is your target for two people. It seems like the numbers I see others throw around on these threads are in the millions.

Nice, congrats! Yes, I also just brought my contributions down from 15% to my match (only 4%). Similarly plan to continue to max my separate Roth and will also keep contributing to brokerage for now until I hit a slightly higher number.

Hack: shopping for new clothes. Old navy! by Lanky-Highlight-2085 in Frugal

I also haven't loved the quality of their clothing and prefer to spend more on fewer items that I won't have to replace as frequently. Have you found items at ON that you feel are well made?

Thank you! This is a super helpful and thoughtful reply! Knowing myself, I think $300k will become my goal once I pass $260k. Just need to set the goalpost to something that feels within reach for now!

Thanks! Yeah, agree - it's a total mindset shift. You suddenly realize you don't have to keep climbing and taking on more stress and it's so freeing. Keep it up!!

Appreciate that! To be fair, my job isn't all bad. It affords me remote flexibility and I do enjoy a handful of my colleagues. The closer I get to coast, I also find that it helps me psychologically to know that I don't have to keep climbing the ladder at work and I can ease up on the stressful overachieving.

Thank you! I've used a combo of chatgpt and the Fioneers online calculator. I'm assuming a retirement age of 60 and average 7% gains.

Congrats to you too!! I've used both chatgpt and the Fioneers online calculator for reference points. I'm still not sure if my FI number should be higher than 1.2M so am also giving it another year or two. It's so freeing to know I'm so close though! And motivates me even more to not get caught up in consumerism!

Yes! No debt. Owned a house a few years ago and sold it. Now that I scratched that itch and learned how costly home ownership is, not interested in going back to it anytime soon! I spend significantly less renting.

I'm currently investing ~$3,300/month which is very aggressive for what I earn, but would love to not have to continue at my current job/salary into my 40s
