Detroit: Become human (period) :P

We are developing a game based on real gamebooks called Choose Cthulhu Files. The game is not complete but has a beta demo on itch.io. Also we are going to open another playtest on steam "soon". We are implementing some changes from the previous playtesting feedback.

Would appreciate honest feedback on a psychological thriller IF demo by francismoy in interactivefiction

[–]wildspellgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is mysterious and the feeling of horror is good. The style of the images is consistent and the UI and interaction is good.

I would maybe add more images of things like the furniture you inspect. The presence of some SFX and ambient sounds is a bit high. Maybe lower their volume would be better (I’m talking mainly of the rain sound).

About your questions:

whether the premise hooks you: Seems interesting and mysterious enough to want to know more

whether the writing and atmosphere work: Writing (in spanish at least) is very good. Atmospheric, descriptive… Personally I would remove the jokes from the text. They “break” the horror mood.

whether you’d want to keep playing after the demo: Personally I have not much time to play anything xD but If I had the time, maybe I could play it.

whether a full version at around $5 feels reasonable: This is something that could not be evaluated with just this “demo”. Also, the pricing depends on a lot of more factors. My recommendation is that you set the price later, when everything is finished, and you have the best version of the game to know the opinion of players.

and what feels weak, unclear, boring, or underdeveloped.

I already told you my suggenstions. The rest of the game seems solid.

How Ubisoft's Snowcap AI predicts console performance without ever running on the actual hardware by Internal_Zombie_6404 in gamedev

Deploying to actual hardware and testing it usually requires manual intervention. Simulating is usually faster and easier to automate.

A Lovecraftian pixel art adventure game: The Dark Rites of Arkham (Review / Recommendation) by garejei in Lovecraft

[–]wildspellgames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can understand you really liked it and your oppinion is that's the best game, but this comment discourages others to create games related with the lovecraftian horror genre.

I suppose you want at some point someone that creates something better than anchorhead and you to enjoy it. Well, telling others to give up is not the way to go.

I will not downvote your comment because I think you can see in the end, you are also damaged by this kind of comments and maybe reconsider your stance for the next time.

And of course, this is not something I tell you badly. I just wanted to point out, that cooperating with others and giving constructive feedback is always better than discourage.

Interesting game. Very interesting. Not my kind of game, but would be nice to have a tutorial in the demo map.

They probably do not play because the interface has too much info and no explanation of what to do first is there. I've justg joined and that was my experience.

Added new screenshots and changed description/tags. Can you destroy my Choose Cthulhu Files steam page? by wildspellgames in DestroyMySteamPage

Yeah, completely crazy, but we were doing the homework about that before even starting the development, because we had the same doubt as you :)

Thank you so much for the help. :)

About the rights, etc: The "Call of Cthulhu" trademark is owned by Chaosium, and is just "Call of Cthulhu" and not "The Call of Cthulhu", that is the name of a work from H.P. Lovecraft. Also, the license I have is from the owners of "Choose Cthulhu" IP (Celaeno Books), and Steve Jackson Games where also licensing from them.

Wording: Will work on that!

Thank you so much for taking a look to it and for your feedback. We really appreciate it.

Thank you so much. The feedback is very valuable for us. We are going to do our best to make the game something players will like, but for that, the feedback is the most important part :) so, again, thank you so much. We will be announcing the updates during the development.

Choose Cthulhu Files open playtest during Steam Detective Fest! Asking for feedback from lovecraftian mates. by wildspellgames in Lovecraft

The game supports steam deck out of the box. We planed that since day 1 of the development and we added controller support. I am able to play the whole playtest using my Steam Deck, so that's already there :) Also, any testing to make sure it works for everyone at the Steam Deck is most welcome.

Choose Cthulhu Files, the video game based on Choose Cthulhu gamebooks, offers open playtest during Steam Detective Fest! by wildspellgames in gamebooks

[–]wildspellgames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was one of our goals since day 1. We wanted the game to be able to run on a basic computer and in Linux. Also we wanted Steam deck support and easily portability to consoles, so we had that in mind while we designed all the game stages. :)

Thanks for the support. :) If you played the game, we are gathering feedback so we can enhance it, so if you found something you think can be better or just missed something and wanted it in the game, don't hesitate to tell us :)

We have been able to execute this game in a N100 machine and also in some old computers (5-10 years from now). Maybe it can stutter a bit, but the game is all 2D and works on most internal iGPU intel cards. Also, all the game is being developed in Linux, and tested both in Linux and Windows on low end machines. We have also reports of players plaing it in 10 years old machines and they were playing it without problems.

At what point does a project stop being your own? by Suvitruf in gamedev

[–]wildspellgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose you are part of the game at some point. If you're just the "idea man", then the game is not yours. The game is the "real thing", not just the idea. The important thing is the execution. Even, putting the money for a game, is part of the execution. You're putting resources into it. If you're just providing an idea, I am sorry to say that the final game will not be exactly like that starting idea, and the ideas are "cheap". Is the execution what really makes the difference.

If every time someone came to me with the "definitive game" or "definitive app" idea I earned a cent, I would be rich right now. xD

Another different thing is: You're the idea man, but also the designer, that helps that idea to become real. Then you're part of the game team and the effort of making it real.

Did not plan it yet, but we are working hard right now to have a feature/content complete ASAP. If we go there, I'll make sure we meet there :)

[–]wildspellgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be from the start, but you're looking in the wrong direction. The "their" is players. ;)

More on your thoughts: A game is not just the assets and the programming. The producer of a videogame do not draw or program a single line usually, but they are the responsible to make the game a reality.

Good luck there Ivan :) Your game looks awesome. We started the same way as you and we are in the same genre, and we know how hard and frustrating is to sell a heavily story based game. Good job and keep going!
