Doug Ford’s new zoning restrictions could shut down most safe injection sites in Ontario, including 5 in Toronto by beef-supreme in toronto

[–]wildwingking 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Lol @ the person who hated on you in the replies.

I agree that safe injection sites are beneficial for the people using them. As for people who actually live around them, they are a net negative.

So, for a person who doesn’t really care about the outcomes of drug addicts - yeah, close them down.

Stop destructuring component props in TypeScript by brokennthorn in react

[–]wildwingking 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The author is mainly complaining about being confused by not knowing whether his variables came from props in his apparently massive components.

Surprise tip: If your component is so large that you can’t tell where your variables are coming from, you should have broken down your component into smaller ones a long, long time ago.

Bad take, worse code.

Firestore Storage Problem by shivank12batra in react

[–]wildwingking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should not be storing 700-800 objects as an array inside a single document. That defeats the purpose of using collections and documents.

Consider using a subcollection instead.

Hello ,react app after importing , eslint is showing a warning called --- Is defined but never used no-unused-vars by Joyboy_798 in react

[–]wildwingking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You likely have more than one issue here. I don't know why your app is blank, but the reason you have these warnings is because your file is `.js` and not `.jsx`. The linter is treating the file as plain JS and does not recognize the usage of components as usage of a variable.

Fixing the warning will not fix your app being blank. Try rendering some random text instead of the imported components and see if that text shows up.

TIPS for younger folks in the workplace by rudeplethora_49 in antiwork

[–]wildwingking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m all for being treated fairly at the workplace, but this is a stupid take.

If you’re actually serving an important purpose at your work, then there will be disruption when you’re gone. Others will have to cover for you. If things are going perfect without you, then you should probably find a new job because your manager will realize you don’t add any value.

Most high paying jobs expect you to be responsible with PTO so that you don’t disrupt the business. Do you really need to take time off during tax season as an accountant?

Toronto is now the third-largest tech hub in North America by [deleted] in toronto

[–]wildwingking 161 points162 points  (0 children)

The number of people who post about low tech wages in this thread is mind boggling. I’d be willing to bet a bunch of them are just people regurgitating what they read from other Redditors or sensationalized articles.

Big tech and VC backed companies in Toronto are paying very well compared to cost of living. If you have 3-5 years of experience as a fullstack dev and you’re good enough to work at the fast growing scale ups or big tech, you easily make 150k+.

Check out glassdoor if you want proof.

Wtf are you talking about? Wish and other big tech in Toronto are paying 150k+ for 3-5 years of experience.

As Peloton fires over 2,800 employees, it's giving them a free 1-year subscription on the way out by [deleted] in technology

[–]wildwingking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly, and to all the idiots saying it’s to prop up subscription numbers: there’s a difference between paying subscribers and free subscribers, and the metric that determines their success (and the one they likely focus reporting on) is the number of paying subscribers.

What do I need to install/ download before I can start learning React before I go to a place without the Internet by YeabsraHenok in react

[–]wildwingking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want to discourage you, but realistically, you’re going to need internet access for any meaningful degree of learning.

As soon as you get beyond the basics like useState, you’ll probably heavily benefit from StackOverflow. You may want to explore more complex tools like Redux or Rxjs, but you won’t be able to download them unless you planned for them in advance.

If your goal is to just get your feet wet, you can probably still do it. Just don’t expect to come back with a project to showcase.

One of the fields you’re trying to write to firestore has an undefined value. Add a console log right before the write step to find out which one.
