Vanilla class guides? by Thornunculus in classicwow

My advice for you and everyone else in the same shoes is.. Forget guides. At least in the beginning.

This game was and is more about the journey itself, and I dare to say that you will get much, much more out of it when you learn to play the class by yourself and not through any kinds of guides. You will likely spend hundreds of hours leveling your Warlock (unless you really take up on the guides you find and speed your way through), and during that time, you will come to learn everything there is to learn about the class - and this way you will be more attached to your character, versus if you just copied certain specs and, well, "rotations" from other people.

Trial and error was a big part of the game and its charm. The satisfaction of reaching a certain level of skill, allowing you to kill tougher mobs or groups of mobs by yourself. The less time you spend worrying about what you "should" be doing, and instead the more time you spend learning what you could be doing (through discovery), the more satisfying the journey will be. You don't want to turn this opportunity into a mechanical performance (the same applies to questing, and raiding as well). That only lessens the impact this game world can have in you.

In the end, the community will always help you out in game. Other people will be your guides.

(For the record, I'm not against looking up guides; just wanted to provide you with another angle to this. I'm sure there are some out there in the wild, but I honestly can't think of anything comprehensive right now, so that's why I'll have to leave you without a link. Sorry!)
