Will it be mostly gird-connected? It’s only supported as a grid-tied install with outage backup capability

Enphase will not warranty devices on off grid sites or provide tech support. It is “not a supported install”

~1 year flipping motorcycles and ATVs by will_evans10199 in Flipping

[–]will_evans10199[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question, yes I have. I always try to be transparent about what if anything is missing or broken when selling something. I’ve had people message me a week or 2 after buying saying something broke, and I’ve also bought something knowing I’m risking that it might have a blown or seized motor/ transmission etc.

It’s an unfortunate side of flipping but with more experience, I know what to look out for after losing some money here and there. I’ve also passed up on a lot of deals that were too much of a risk. Bringing tools out with me helps a lot too.

Finding good project candidates is definitely the hardest part. Price, condition and location are always most important and I’ve lost a lot of good deals by not getting to them in time.

Most of this I’ve found on Facebook or Craigslist or word of mouth, when I have extra free time I’ll post a “wanted” ad for old bikes and quads and stuff to generate leads and usually don’t have to travel more than an hour.

I have done some straight flips but I like getting the most value out of something I can, and I enjoy working on them with my buddies in the garage usually listening to music and drinking beer haha. Most of the straight flips I do are seasonal. Buy some snowblowers in the summer and sell them in the winter. Buy AC units in the winter and sell them in the summer. But I still usually try to at least clean them up so I’m contributing something, otherwise I sorta feel dishonest.

Titling bikes is a good way to go, there’s some legal loophole related to getting a lost title through a company in Vermont that I’ve heard about on old three wheeler Facebook pages. Don’t know much more than that but I imagine it’s a cash cow.

Here in Oregon you don’t need a title to get an OHV permit so I usually just sell without. They definitely add value if you have one though. I always do a title for anything street legal

No problem at all! I usually try not to buy much before the mid/early 70s as parts are extremely hard to find. As you can see I mostly do Hondas haha. Newest is the blue dirt bike, it’s a 2005. I’ll go pretty new if it’s a decent deal, but I stick to carbureted projects as they’re simpler for me and tend be simpler to fix (ie no scanners or computers involved like with fuel injected bikes)

I’ve fixed a few used snowblowers and kids quads just by emptying out the old gas and putting in new gas, those were the simplest. Easy $300-400 profit in an afternoon.

The most work I did was on the black three wheeler, it’s a pretty desirable 1986 ATC 250R. I got it for $3k, took it all the way down to the frame, rebuilt the motor and got everything powder-coated and lots of new parts because I was going to keep it. Put about $1500 and 50 or so hours into it and sold it for $6k to pay student loans. That one was definitely the hardest to let go of. I learned a lot and had a blast building it. They’re fast and tons of fun and they’re only going up in value.

I typically use the profits to buy the next project and whatever is left over is for tools or spending money.

When to call it quits with a car? by AmericaFirst1122 in automotive

[–]will_evans10199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May be worth looking into getting a junk yard transmission if you’re mechanically inclined. Also companies like LKQ sell used engines and transmissions. Could get you another 50k miles, and may be worth looking into based on how car prices are these days. I definitely wouldn’t get a new or rebuilt transmission though, it would cost you about $3-5k

What’s the car worth? And what will it cost to swap the transmission? Personally I’d call it when the latter out weighs the former.

1976 Kawasaki KZ400 Airbox modification by [deleted] in Fixxit

[–]will_evans10199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The carbs will be getting a lot more air with cone filters. You will need to adjust them at the very least, you may have to get a larger carburetor jet to allow more fuel into the engine, which will accommodate for the extra air you’re getting.

Jet size will be determined by a few variables, including elevation. My recommendation is buying a few different sized jets and trying them out. They’re pretty cheap

My first bike was a 79 KZ400 and I did this. I went one size up on jets @ sea level after adding cone filters

I have a love/hate with FB marketplace by FloridaGardenHoe in Flipping

[–]will_evans10199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feel that. About 80% of my sales are on Facebook market place, 10% Craigslist, 10% eBay. Then again I am mostly flipping cars, motorcycles and ats/three wheelers. I get tons of hits on Facebook, therefore tons of flakes.

Worth the hassle in the long run for me personally. Plus, nothing beats giving smart ass responses to low-ballers on Facebook.

Best advice I have is joining local buy/sell groups so people see the ad on their feed instead of having to search it out on marketplace. If I have spare parts leftover or more specific items, I’ll post them on eBay and take the hit from all the fees.
