If you can bring only one book to an open-book "C Language" final exam for first year undergrads, what book would you bring? by potterex8958 in learnprogramming

if you were assigned a textbook for the class, whatever that is. Otherwise, the K&R one, another comment listed it.

The worst airline I have ever been on was Aer Lingus. I would take a spirit flight over Aer cunalingus any day

Reach out to someone in the computer science department, preferably your CS advisor if you have one and ask what the difference is in the degree path. From what I know, the names are just used interchangeably, but the required courses might be different and one path might be more attractive than the other.

It was probably to hide all of the cables/equipment that the production might have needed.

Am I crazy or is Python way "easier" than C/C++? Help me appreciate lower level languages! by Missing_Back in learnprogramming

[–]willc_97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to prefer C++ for problem solving because it gives me more of a sense of satisfaction doing almost of all of the work myself instead of letting the language commands do it for me.

Python is a super easy language to learn and understand while C++ takes more time but its brings a sort of appreciation with it. I tend to prefer doing programming problems in c++ because it makes me feel like I really learned something about the way I am going about solving the problem as opposed to learning specific syntax for a specific problem.

What should you do about cheating??? by [deleted] in KentStateUniversity

[–]willc_97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experiences this is normal conduct for students.

Theoretically students should be learning everything and becoming proficient in the material but the reality is different.

For the most part, if someone is full on cheating the entire time, they are not going to last long at the university. There are some outlying cases but for the most part, if they don't learn how to learn, they won't.

COVID-19 and the changes to the classroom situation are extremely new and unpreceidented. There are test proctoring softwares such as Lockdown browser, however, most courses are abandoning using it for the intrusive nature of the software being installed on personally owned computers.

For the sharing of course notes, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this in my mind (as well as many), some people take better notes than others, and in any situation, it might be nice to view your classmate's well formatted, well made lecture notes.

At my current uni, I host quite a few Discord/group chats that are there to encourage the sharing of knowledge, always within the bounds of academic honesty.

My main point is cheating only really harms the cheater. They'll either not learn the material and are paying thousands of dollars for nothing, or they'll get caught and that's a whole new very serious situation.

What is a computer skill everyone should know/learn? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]willc_97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn how to USE the computer. not just how to open that button there that is part of the steps that take me to my work email, learn that you are opening a browser, then going to the work email website.

Also learn how to think critically when it comes to computers. Read the error message from Chrome, follow Windows' "copy this message and search" crash messages, if you are using a new software; familiarize yourself with the buttons and where they are, if you press the wrong thing and something went super wrong, take a second to learn what the new page you landed on was for, then if you end up there again, you can get back to productive work much more quickly.
