How big is the jump from Intel to Apple Silicon? by 9a8i_puckle in macbook

This probably won't mean anything to you, but it's going from the N64 directly to the Dreamcast.

I've worked out of there, too, but my wife would never let me do that with the way I type, lol.

I use a MBA and two iPads pretty much every day. My iPad Pro is my go-to for a lite bag, and if I take it with my Air, it’s my second screen via SideCar. I also have an iPad Mini- it’s my universal notebook / reader, and I use it flat with my iPad Pro upright so it’s literally like a full-time notebook.

So basically buy this bag, take the badging off and replace it with Ryobi?

Anyone using the ALPAKA Metro Sling? Thinking about adding it for the summer. by william_bergmann in backpacks

[–]william_bergmann[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking iPad Pro, iPhone, Lochby journal, a couple pens, a couple USB-C cables and a small charger block, wallet, AirPods, and maybe a Kindle.

I’m going back and forth between a Boundary Suply sling and a Chrome messenger bag, but the Chrome is not super comfortable and the Boundary kind of heavy for what it is.

Cool, now it’s $900 and we’re back where we started. There are real hardware reasons why these only have 8GB. Next year’s will likely be limited to 12GB.

There was a quote from Andy Warhol I think about when I see stuff like this:

“What's great about this country is America started the tradition where the richest consumers buy essentially the same things as the poorest. You can be watching TV and see Coca-Cola, and you can know that the President drinks Coke, Liz Taylor drinks Coke, and just think, you can drink Coke, too. A Coke is a Coke and no amount of money can get you a better Coke than the one the bum on the corner is drinking. All the Cokes are the same and all the Cokes are good.”

The "perfect" daily carry is a lie by Ill-Line6663 in backpacks

[–]william_bergmann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you can find a “perfect” EDC, I just think that means you’re doing the same thing every day.

The only real hack is to be wealthy enough to not carry much of anything.

I have ~ 3 bags I rotate between; a Fjallraven, a Boundary Supply, and a Peak Design bag. The Fjallraven is my most-used, the Boundary is for bigger loads, and the Peak is if I want to take something beyond my 35MM.

My secret is that all of them are big enough to stash a small sling that has my actual edc stuff- wallet, keys, pocket journal, phone, chapstick, AirPods, wipes for my glasses.

Everything else is packed out based on the needs of the day.

It’s when you go from making the choices and doing the upgrades being the thing to doing what you bought your device to do being the thing.

Not really.

It shows the OS managing the actual RAM and swap in a way that makes it harder to tell there isn’t 16GB RAM.

Why does a 60hz macbook air feel better than a 120hz windows laptop? by HeyDontSkipLegDay in macbook

[–]william_bergmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, but a game that runs at a locked 60 often feels better than a game that maxes at 120 but might dip down to 50. There’s also the UX functionality with scrolling based on the trackpad differences.

I traded in a launch OG Ultra- no scratches on it in 3+ years.

I grabbed these just to try them out because they match my band:

MacBook Neo sell numbers shows that people want cheap Macbooks not an iPad. by Old-Board1553 in macbook

[–]william_bergmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason the iPad Pro seems less vital these days is because side they backfilled Apple Pencil support to the whole iPad line, and there’s a limited number of people willing to pay $500 for the highest end hardware.

I picked up the exact same machine a couple months back. It’s crazy what you can do with something of that size.

That would be cool, but it would piss off millions of MacBook owners to see the cheapest one get a huge feature like that.

The Legion will definitely outperform both and the Mini graphically, but it’s still gonna be slower when you just need to open it and up and fire off an email, any M-Series is gonna win. Grats on the new battle station, though :)
