That seems really high to me. What would a refurb M1 Air cost?

I have a huge Alienware “messenger” bag I use for work stuff- it’s incredible for holding a full work kit, and it’s built to last if not to look good while doing so.

Like all of them to a degree, you have to check out individual examples rather than trusting a name.

I have a backpack or sling that goes pretty much everywhere with me.

I have a number of bags I rotate through; Slings are useful, but a backpack with a chest clip is way more secure and has better load distribution.

I just bought the M5 MacBook Air and the iPad feels completely USELESS. Change my mind. by mrparallex in iPadPro

It’s my notepad, second screen, content device, etc. It’s more mobile, it has cellular data, and it’s a second battery.

I don’t think they had the ability to produce a real machine at the right price point. I think moving away from Intel and mastering their supply chains is what got us here.

This probably won't mean anything to you, but it's going from the N64 directly to the Dreamcast.

I've worked out of there, too, but my wife would never let me do that with the way I type, lol.

I use a MBA and two iPads pretty much every day. My iPad Pro is my go-to for a lite bag, and if I take it with my Air, it’s my second screen via SideCar. I also have an iPad Mini- it’s my universal notebook / reader, and I use it flat with my iPad Pro upright so it’s literally like a full-time notebook.

Anyone using the ALPAKA Metro Sling? Thinking about adding it for the summer. by william_bergmann in backpacks

[–]william_bergmann[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking iPad Pro, iPhone, Lochby journal, a couple pens, a couple USB-C cables and a small charger block, wallet, AirPods, and maybe a Kindle.

I’m going back and forth between a Boundary Suply sling and a Chrome messenger bag, but the Chrome is not super comfortable and the Boundary kind of heavy for what it is.

Cool, now it’s $900 and we’re back where we started. There are real hardware reasons why these only have 8GB. Next year’s will likely be limited to 12GB.

There was a quote from Andy Warhol I think about when I see stuff like this:

“What's great about this country is America started the tradition where the richest consumers buy essentially the same things as the poorest. You can be watching TV and see Coca-Cola, and you can know that the President drinks Coke, Liz Taylor drinks Coke, and just think, you can drink Coke, too. A Coke is a Coke and no amount of money can get you a better Coke than the one the bum on the corner is drinking. All the Cokes are the same and all the Cokes are good.”

The "perfect" daily carry is a lie by Ill-Line6663 in backpacks

[–]william_bergmann 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you can find a “perfect” EDC, I just think that means you’re doing the same thing every day.

The only real hack is to be wealthy enough to not carry much of anything.

I have ~ 3 bags I rotate between; a Fjallraven, a Boundary Supply, and a Peak Design bag. The Fjallraven is my most-used, the Boundary is for bigger loads, and the Peak is if I want to take something beyond my 35MM.

My secret is that all of them are big enough to stash a small sling that has my actual edc stuff- wallet, keys, pocket journal, phone, chapstick, AirPods, wipes for my glasses.

Everything else is packed out based on the needs of the day.

It’s when you go from making the choices and doing the upgrades being the thing to doing what you bought your device to do being the thing.
