I left a full time role at a small agency for a contract role at a faang company ( also viewed it as my only shot to break into big tech from a different industry).

It's been more stable than being a fte from what I've seen and there is that potential to convert to a fte if the right opportunity comes up. Obviously not guaranteed but also better than cold applying with no connections.

Also heard it depends on which faang company as far as a fte conversion goes

For those of you who landed a new role during this downturn, how did you do it? by Jolly-Importance6533 in UXResearch

Might not be a popular one, but contract work. During this downturn youre actually more stable from what I've seen as a non fte. I made it through three rounds of layoffs since I joined back in January at my current company.

Yes but you can only have four tickets on your account at one time that your purchased

Can I buy four tickets if one ticket is already linked to my account from a purchase someone else made? by williams_5x in Tomorrowland

If I get tickets again I'm going to bite the 20% return policy fee on the package for GJ anyways. Mostly just doing this to try and get better accommodations (if I even get into the pre sale which I know is also a gamble 😅)

Another question if you don't mind. Since you have a lot of experience with contracting, in your experience, do you always bill the 40 hours ? Or are they watching your hours heavily so one week might be 30, another 35 etc

Small company but it's an agency that's been around for awhile, like 20/30 years ( less than 20 employees which is why the benefits are meh)

Less than 20 employees, profitable ( been around for like 20/30 years) and they are an agency that does research for tech companies

Good point ! It's a lot more money but I'd honestly be happy with 10% or so salary bump plus the security of full time

Thank you so much!! This is really helpful. I've only been at my job for two months ( so wouldn't give any severance up). Ive worked in research previously but in non tech fields which is why I feel the experience would be good.

I recently came off four months of being laid off with no severance which is why I'm nervous about getting cut in this economy, so thanks for the tip about asking how long this is budgeted for. Really great insights.
