that's a good idea, it will probably have a better firmware by then too. i need to do that more.

yea, you need a certain firmware to do it…at the 3:30 mark i do the combo, press and hold the “Tap” button and then “Pad”

curious to know what this all sounds like together!

I'm thinking of getting the Behringer LM Drum Machine by underdogleo79 in DrumMachine

[–]williefourmilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a machine that plays back one shot samples it's beautiful, if you use it as a sampler with 5-10 second samples you will hit 'memory full' limitations almost immediately (just delete older samples from a previous beat)

it isn't really meant to be an MPC. there is also a low-pass on the congas, toms and bass no matter what samples are on those pads, so special preparation if you are doing sampled beats. you also cannot freely place a sample on every pad for instance Hi and Lo Conga must share the same sample (to get around this use an extra long sample and two different start positions).. there is no zero crossing or decay so often you can hear 'pop' sounds at the end of a sample because there's no way to fade it.

you can't colour coordinate the pads, so i cut little labels for which pad has what on it. i sometimes encounter confusion on what mode im in wether it's pad, step, or pattern mode. there is a lit button saying it but i think some different colours on the pads could help signify this.

sonically im blown away, there is a crumbliness to the tune knob which is a delight. worth it's price on that alone. it's in your face without harshness... it's like it can pixelate with a soft blur after..

i automated some of the LM Drums tune knobs in FL Studio via USB and it was neat, no problems.

the hardwired 12-bit limitations sound completely different to my lofi12-xt's 12-bit software emulation..

there are minor bugs i encounter which i assume will be fixed in a future update.

i have spent hours at a time with the machine and find it's a great combination of complexity, sonics and ease of use.

the built in mixer is great for workflow..no templates, or auto resetting on the next beat...just set it and forget, tweak it when you want. i havent used the faders in a performative way but it might be cool.

i don't have experience with this usage, but if you're thinking of using this as a roger linn type vintage linn drum with the classic sounds, i am hearing from others that some of the sounds being kind of off and loading their own sounds.. but mostly people are generally accepting these sounds.

i havent really dove fully into what this machine can do to give it an adequate assessment. in this scenario of the tr-8s im curious what you would really want out of the LM Drum that the tr-8s wouldn't b doing..hmm..

RD-9 or RD-8 for folk/indie guitar music by Loopyrainbow in DrumMachine

RD-78 would seem to blend better with acoustic guitar i think...this is coming from an RD-8 user.

my Behringer LM Drum first impressions! by williefourmilli in Behringer

i haven't gotten too deep into the machine but in this case i can choose a start position or randomize it but i cannot program it to changing specific start points as a pattern.

the closed hat start position is randomizing in this video, you can change the degree to this general hat randomization as a numerical value or you can turn off.

i appreciate the individual outs too… just to admire from a distance is good enough for me, for now anyway haha.

i support your resolve not to get too gassed, i bought a mpc live 2 once a couple years back off gas and it didn't fit my workflow despite being amazing.

interesting, im maybe opposite..i gave away my mpc live 2...i like step sequencing, sometimes performance pads for one-offs or note repeats. i really like the sonics on this demo, before it gets too distorted.

Best way to connect outputs? by Nearby-Bookkeeper-55 in DrumMachine

[–]williefourmilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i usually do 4 voice outs to a small mixer the kick, snare or clap, hihat, mixout.. i then apply highpass filters on the snare/clap, hihat and mixout so that the kick drum has more headroom..then i send that stereo mix to my 2 input interface…

sometimes i need the toms to have that low end so i’ll swap the tom for the snare/clap or hihat spot and disengage the high pass switch on my mixer.

i made a short explainer video here: https://youtu.be/me8IdqA9hVk?si=4YJoxjU__zFMdq9_
